Job Responsibilities of an Operation Theatre Technician in a Hospital An Operation Theatre (OT) Technician is a key member of the surgical team, ensuring that the OT is safe, sterile, and fully equipped before, during, and after surgery .

Pre‑operative duties

- Prepare the OT environment: Fumigate and clean the theatre to maintain sterility

- Check and set up equipment: Ensure surgical instruments, anaesthesia machines, suction units, monitors, and lighting systems are clean, functional, and ready for use

- Arrange instruments: Organise tools according to the planned procedure, following aseptic techniques alliedsciences.dpu.edu.in.

- Verify patient records: Review medical charts and patient details before surgery

Intra‑operative responsibilities

- Assist the surgical team: Pass instruments to the surgeon, adjust lights or equipment, and support the anaesthetist by monitoring vital signs

- Maintain sterility: Keep the sterile field intact, prevent contamination of instruments and patient, and respond promptly to the surgical team’s needs

- Manage equipment:



Troubleshoot minor issues, operate suction, and ensure all devices function smoothly during the procedure

Post‑operative duties

- Assist in patient transfer: Help move the patient safely to the recovery area under medical supervision

- Clean and sterilise: Disinfect and sterilise instruments, clean the OT table, and prepare the theatre for the next case

- Documentation: Record sterilisation cycles, equipment usage, and surgical details for accountability

Additional responsibilities

- Equipment maintenance: Perform routine checks, report faults, and ensure all OT equipment is in working order

- Infection control: Adhere to aseptic protocols and hospital infection control policies

- Coordination: Work closely with surgeons, anaesthetists, OT nurses, and other staff to ensure smooth surgical workflow

Pay: ₹10,000.00 - ₹25,000.00 per month
