Position : Manager Maintenance - Forging & Machining Industries

Location : Thirumazhisai, Chennai.

Reports To : AGM Maintenance

Position Overview

We are seeking an experienced and results-driven Manager Maintenance to lead the maintenance function for our forging and machining operations. The role is responsible for ensuring maximum equipment availability, reliability, and operational efficiency across forging hamers & frictions screw press, induction billet heater, induction hardening systems, CNC, HMC and VMC machines, broaching & cylindrical grainging utilities, and plant infrastructure. The incumbent will drive preventive and predictive maintenance initiatives, minimize equipment downtime, optimize maintenance costs, and implement continuous improvement practices.

Working closely with Production, Quality, Engineering, and EHS teams.

Key Responsibilities

- Maintenance Strategy & Equipment Reliability
- Develop and implement preventive and predictive maintenance schedules for forging presses, induction heating systems, CNC and VMC machines, hydraulic and pneumatic systems, EOT cranes, compressors, DG sets, and plant utilities
- Ensure uninterrupted production by minimizing breakdowns
- Oversee operation and maintenance of HT panels, transformers, DG sets, and power distribution systems.
- Ensure compliance with electrical safety standards and statutory requirements
- Coordinate with utility providers for power supply and load management
- Monitor equipment performance through KPIs such as MTBF, MTTR, machine availability, and maintenance costs, and drive continuous improvement initiatives
- Breakdown Analysis & Continuous Improvement
- Develop machining strategies for complex forged geometries (CNC, VMC, turning,



boring, milling).
- Maintenance Planning & Asset Management
- Plan and execute annual maintenance shutdowns and major overhauls with minimal impact on production schedules.
- Develop maintenance schedules, equipment history records, and asset management plans to maximize equipment lifecycle.
- Ensure availability of critical spare parts and optimize inventory levels while maintaining cost efficiency.
- Technical Support & Cross-Functional Collaboration
- Troubleshoot hydraulic, pneumatic, mechanical, and electrical systems in forging and machining equipment
- Collaborate with Production, Quality, Engineering, and Tool Room teams to resolve equipment-related issues and improve manufacturing performance.
- Support installation, commissioning, relocation, and validation of new machines and plant equipment.
- Coordinate with OEMs, vendors, and service providers for technical support, annual maintenance contracts and equipment upgrades
- Safety, Compliance & Documentation
- Ensure all maintenance activities comply with statutory regulations, safety standards, environmental requirements, and company policies.
- Maintain maintenance documentation, calibration records, equipment history, and statutory inspection reports.
- Drive a strong safety culture by ensuring adherence to Lockout/Tagout (LOTO), permit-to-work systems, and safe maintenance practices. Introduce advanced machining technologies (robotic cells, toolpath optimization, CAM programming).
- Drive cost reduction initiatives without compromising quality.
- Maintain accurate records of maintenance activities, spare parts inventory, and equipment history




- Ensure compliance with ISO/TS certifications and statutory audits

- Lead, mentor, and develop a high-performing maintenance team by providing technical guidance, coaching, and performance feedback.
- Allocate resources effectively, monitor team performance, and promote skill development through continuous training.
- Foster a culture of accountability, collaboration, innovation, and continuous improvement to support operational excellence.

Qualifications

- Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or Mechatronics from a recognized university.
- 15 -20 years of maintenance experience in a forging and machine shop environment, with at least 5 - 8 years in a managerial role.
- Hands-on experience in maintenance of forging presses, induction heating systems, CNC turning centers, VMCs, hydraulic and pneumatic systems, utilities, and material handling equipment.
- Knowledge of TPM, Lean Manufacturing, Predictive Maintenance, PLCs, Servo Systems, VFDs, Hydraulic & Pneumatic Systems, and Industrial Automation.
- Experience with ERP/CMMS software and strong proficiency in Microsoft Office.
