ROLE TITLE- Mainframe Migration Specialist

EXPERIENCE REQUIRED

1012 years of total IT experience, with a strong foundation in mainframe technologies and legacy modernization.

6+ years in core mainframe development, support, and maintenance across large-scale enterprise environments.

4+ years dedicated to mainframe migration/modernization projects, including at least 2 full end-to-end migration lifecycles.

SUMMARY

We are seeking a Mainframe Migration Specialist with 10-12 years of experience to join our dynamic team. Responsible for planning and executing the migration of legacy mainframe applications, data, and workloads to modern platforms (cloud, distributed, or hybrid environments) while ensuring business continuity, data integrity, and minimal disruption.

This role plays a critical part in mainframe modernization and rehosting projects, ensuring functional equivalence, performance stability, and minimal disruption during transition from legacy environments (e.g., IBM z/OS) to modern platforms.

You will work independently in collaboration with cross-functional teams to align migration strategies with enterprise standards and industry best practices. The ideal candidate will demonstrate deep technical expertise, a passion for automation, and a commitment to operational excellence.

Key Responsibilities

Assess existing mainframe applications (COBOL, JCL, DB2, CICS, IMS, VSAM) and document migration scope. and Basic knowledge in Opentex extreme

Design and implement migration strategies (rehost, replatform, refactor, or rewrite).

Perform code conversion, data migration, and workload transition to target platforms.

Develop and execute migration test plans,



including validation and reconciliation.

Collaborate with infrastructure, application, and business teams to manage dependencies.

Identify and mitigate migration risks, ensuring rollback and contingency plans.

Optimize performance and cost post-migration.

Document architecture, processes, and knowledge transfer materials.

Technical Proficiency

Expert in Mainframe JCL

Expert in Mainframe Job scheduler, specially Control-M

Expert in Mainframe CICS especially familiarity with CA Ideal

Robust experience with PowerShell scripting and automation in Azure.

Expert mainframe batch job concepts (JCL, GDG, PDS)

Experience with C#/.NET, SQL Server, and Azure Storage.

Understanding of thread safety, locking mechanisms, and concurrency in scripting.

Strong 4-5 years hands-on Experience with migration projects (mainframe to cloud preferred).

Ability to interpret and convert JCL scripts to PowerShell.

Strong communication and collaboration skills.

Experience with Agile methodologies and working in cross-functional teams.

Experience with operationalizing batch jobs.
