Position: Supermarket Manager

1. JOB PURPOSE

The Supermarket Manager is responsible for the overall day-to-day operation, sales, profitability, staff management, customer service, inventory control, and discipline of the supermarket.

The Manager must ensure that the store operates smoothly, efficiently, and profitably while maintaining high standards of customer service, product availability, cleanliness, and presentation.

2. KEY RESPONSIBILITIESA. Store Operations

- Take complete responsibility for the daily functioning of the supermarket.
- Ensure the store opens and closes on time and operates according to company procedures.
- Maintain proper department-wise operations and coordination.
- Ensure shelves are properly stocked, organized, priced, and displayed.
- Monitor store cleanliness, hygiene, lighting, equipment, and overall appearance.
- Ensure all operational issues are identified and resolved promptly.

B. Sales & Business Performance

- Achieve daily, weekly, and monthly sales targets.
- Monitor sales performance by department and product category.
- Identify slow-moving products and take corrective action.
- Improve customer conversion, basket size, and repeat purchases.
- Implement promotions and offers effectively.
- Monitor competitor pricing and market trends.
- Work with management to improve store profitability.

C. Inventory & Stock Management

- Maintain optimum stock levels and avoid both stock-outs and excess inventory.
- Monitor fast-moving, slow-moving, and non-moving products.
- Ensure proper receiving, checking, storage, and display of merchandise.
- Verify purchase quantities and received goods against invoices.
- Monitor expiry dates, damaged goods, leakage, and wastage.
- Conduct and supervise regular physical stock checks.
- Investigate stock shortages and discrepancies.
- Ensure proper FIFO/FEFO practices wherever applicable.

D. Staff Management

- Supervise, guide, and motivate all store employees.
- Allocate daily duties and responsibilities to staff.
- Prepare and monitor staff attendance and duty schedules.
- Ensure employees follow company rules and operating procedures.
- Monitor staff productivity and performance.
- Train employees in customer service, product handling, billing, hygiene, and store procedures.
- Handle staff discipline and performance issues professionally.
- Ensure adequate manpower during peak business hours.

E. Customer Service

- Maintain a high standard of customer service.
- Handle customer complaints and resolve issues quickly and professionally.
- Ensure customers can easily find products and receive assistance when required.




- Monitor billing counter efficiency and waiting time.
- Ensure promotional prices and offers are correctly communicated to customers.
- Build a positive shopping experience that encourages repeat customers.

F. Cash & Billing Control

- Supervise billing operations and cash handling.
- Ensure proper cash collection, reconciliation, and handover procedures.
- Monitor billing errors, refunds, cancellations, discounts, and void transactions.
- Ensure unauthorized discounts or price changes do not occur.
- Report any cash shortage or discrepancy immediately to management.

G. Purchasing & Supplier Coordination

- Coordinate with the purchasing team regarding stock requirements.
- Monitor product availability and communicate replenishment requirements.
- Coordinate with suppliers regarding deliveries, shortages, damages, and replacements.
- Ensure purchased products meet required quantity, quality, and pricing standards.
- Maintain good professional relationships with suppliers.

H. Store Presentation & Merchandising

- Ensure attractive and organized product displays.
- Maintain correct price tags and promotional signage.
- Ensure high-margin and promotional products receive appropriate visibility.
- Maintain proper category-wise product placement.
- Regularly review shelf presentation and product availability.
- Ensure promotional displays are implemented on time.

I. Loss Prevention & Security

- Minimize theft, pilferage, wastage, damage, and stock loss.
- Monitor CCTV and store security procedures.
- Ensure proper procedures are followed for damaged, expired, and returned products.
- Investigate unusual stock or cash discrepancies.
- Coordinate with security personnel when required.

J. Reporting & Administration

Prepare and submit regular reports to management covering:

- Daily sales
- Department-wise sales
- Stock shortages
- Stock discrepancies
- Wastage and expiry
- Damaged goods
- Staff attendance
- Customer complaints
- Cash/billing discrepancies
- Purchase and receiving issues
- Store operational issues

3. KEY PERFORMANCE INDICATORS (KPIs)

The Manager will be evaluated based on:

- Achievement of sales targets
- Gross margin and profitability
- Stock availability
- Stock accuracy
- Reduction in wastage and expiry
- Reduction in stock loss/shrinkage
- Customer satisfaction
- Staff productivity and attendance
- Store cleanliness and presentation
- Billing efficiency




- Purchase and inventory control
- Compliance with company procedures

4. REQUIRED SKILLS & QUALIFICATIONS

Education:
Minimum Plus Two / Diploma / Graduate. A degree in Retail Management, Business Administration, Commerce, or a related field is preferred.

Experience:

- Minimum 3–5 years of supermarket/retail experience.
- Previous experience in a supervisory or managerial position is preferred.
- Experience handling FMCG, grocery, fresh produce, dairy, frozen, household, and general merchandise is an advantage.

6. AUTHORITY & ACCOUNTABILITY

The Supermarket Manager is accountable for the overall operational performance of the store.

The Manager is expected to identify problems independently, take appropriate corrective action within authorized limits, and escalate key financial, staff, customer, stock, and operational issues to management without delay.

The Manager must not:

- Authorize unauthorized discounts or credit sales.
- Manipulate stock, sales, cash, or operational records.
- Make purchases outside approved company procedures.
- Ignore stock shortages, cash discrepancies, expiry, or customer complaints.
- Make commitments on behalf of the company without management approval.

7. WORKING HOURS

The position requires flexibility according to store operating hours and business requirements.

The Manager may be required to work during:

- Weekends
- Public holidays
- Promotional periods
- Stock-taking
- Special sales events
- Emergency operational situations

8. OVERALL EXPECTATION

The Supermarket Manager is expected to run the store as if it were their own business, with strong focus on:

The ultimate responsibility is to ensure that the supermarket is well-managed, profitable, customer-friendly, properly stocked, and operationally efficient every day.

Pay: ₹25,000.00 - ₹30,000.00 per month
