Job Description – Azure Virtual Desktop (AVD / WVD) & Nerdio Engineer (L3)

Key Responsibilities

1. Virtual Desktop Architecture & Engineering Design and maintain enterprise virtual desktop platforms across Azure Virtual Desktop (AVD / WVD) and Nerdio. Define architecture standards for host pools, session host sizing, golden images, storage, networking, and user profiles. Support hybrid virtual desktop environments covering cloud and on-premises platforms. Lead platform modernization, migration, and optimization initiatives. Provide L3 escalation support for virtual desktop and application delivery issues. 2. Azure Virtual Desktop (AVD / WVD) Engineering Design, administer, and optimize Azure Virtual Desktop environments. Manage AVD components including: Host Pools Application Groups Workspaces Session Hosts RemoteApp Publishing Desktop Assignments Scaling Plans Support pooled and personal desktop models. Troubleshoot AVD user access, session connectivity, profile loading, FSLogix, host registration, and performance issues. Support AVD integration with Microsoft Entra ID, Active Directory, Conditional Access, and Azure networking. Drive AVD operational maturity, automation, monitoring, and cost optimization. 3. Nerdio Manager Administration Administer and optimize Nerdio Manager for Enterprise. Manage host pool creation, image updates, session host lifecycle, autoscaling, and schedule-based optimization. Configure Nerdio automation and scripted actions. Use Nerdio for day-to-day AVD operational management, monitoring, and reporting. Support cost optimization through autoscale policies, capacity planning, and resource scheduling. Troubleshoot Nerdio-related orchestration and automation failures. 4. Image Management & Application Delivery Design and maintain golden images / master images for Azure Virtual Desktop (AVD / WVD) platforms. Manage image versioning, validation, patching, rollback, and release governance. Support application integration and publishing across AVD and WVD. Manage application delivery methods including: RemoteApp Published Applications App-V MSIX App Attach Intune / SCCM application integration where applicable Troubleshoot image update failures and application compatibility issues. 5.



FSLogix & Profile Management Configure and support FSLogix Profile Containers and Office Containers. Troubleshoot profile corruption, slow logons, failed profile attachments, and user personalization issues. Optimize user profile performance for AVD and WVD environments. Support profile storage design, permissions, exclusions, and operational standards. Work with storage and identity teams to resolve profile-related incidents. 6. Performance, Capacity & User Experience Management Monitor virtual desktop health, user sessions, CPU, memory, disk, network latency, and logon performance. Analyze user experience issues and recommend optimization actions. Support capacity planning for host pools, Azure compute, and storage. Optimize session density, autoscaling, and resource utilization. Support proactive monitoring and service improvement initiatives. 7. Security & Compliance Implement security controls for virtual desktop platforms. Support: Conditional Access MFA Role-Based Access Control Endpoint Security Session Security Network Segmentation Encryption Privileged Access Controls Ensure virtual desktop platforms comply with enterprise security and audit requirements. Support vulnerability remediation, patch compliance, and secure configuration baselines. 8. Incident, Problem & Change Management Act as L3 escalation point for AVD, WVD, Nerdio, FSLogix, image, profile, and application delivery issues. Lead Root Cause Analysis for recurring incidents. Participate in major incident resolution and service restoration activities. Review and approve high-risk VDI changes. Support CAB, release governance, and problem management reviews. Mentor L1/L2 engineers and improve troubleshooting runbooks. 9. Automation & Continuous Improvement Develop automation using: PowerShell Azure Automation Nerdio Scripted Actions Microsoft Graph /
