Overview

The Finance and Accounts Manager will take ownership of the company's finance and accounting function, supervise the existing accounts team and work closely with management, sales and operations. The role requires practical experience in managing business finances, analyzing profitability and implementing controls, alongside ensuring accurate accounts and timely statutory compliance.

Candidate Requirements

Qualified Chartered Accountant with 8-10 years of post-qualification experience.

Experience managing an in-house finance and accounts function.

Relevant experience in food, FMCG, distribution, trading or a similar inventory-led business.

Strong knowledge of accounting, costing, working capital, taxation and internal controls.

Proficiency in Excel and integrated ERP systems; Odoo experience preferred.

Ability to independently manage monthly closure and explain financial results to management.

Strong follow-through, attention to detail and confidence in addressing commercial discrepancies.

Experience in an owner-managed or growing business is preferred. Import/export and India UAE transaction exposure will be an advantage.

Key Responsibilities

Financial Accounting and Management Reporting

Oversee day-to-day accounting, ledger scrutiny and bank, customer and supplier reconciliations.

Complete monthly financial closure by the 10th of the following month.

Present monthly P&L;, balance sheet, cash flow and management reports with clear explanations of variances.

Ensure correct accounting of discounts, schemes, credit notes, returns, freight and inventory adjustments.

Cash Flow and Working Capital





Prepare and maintain a rolling 13-week cash flow forecast.

Monitor receivables, overdue collections, customer credit limits and payment terms.

Coordinate with sales teams to resolve outstanding balances and disputed deductions.

Plan supplier payments and banking requirements in line with available funds and business priorities.

Costing and Profitability

Analyze profitability by product, customer, distributor and sales channel.

Assess margins after freight, discounts, commissions, returns and other relevant costs.

Evaluate pricing proposals, institutional contracts, distributor schemes and online order economics.

Identify margin leakage and recommend corrective action.

Inventory and Commercial Controls

Work with operations to reconcile physical stock with accounting and ERP records.

Monitor inventory ageing, slow-moving stock, expiry exposure and sales returns.

Establish clear controls for credit approvals, discounts, expenses, purchases and stock adjustments.

Review distributor settlements and maintain accurate supporting records.

Budgeting and Business Planning

Prepare annual budgets and periodic forecasts.

Track sales, gross margins and operating expenses against budgets.

Provide management with practical recommendations on cost control and resource allocation.

Prepare financial projections and supporting information for banks, lenders and potential investors.

Compliance and Audit

Ensure timely GST, TDS, income tax and other applicable statutory compliance.

Coordinate with external auditors, tax consultants and other advisers.

Maintain audit-ready accounts, reconciliations and supporting documentation.

Review applicable statutory requirements and ensure issues are resolved promptly.

ERP and Team Management

Strengthen the use of Odoo for accounting, inventory integration and management reporting.

Improve data accuracy, reporting processes and financial controls.

Supervise and develop the accounts team, with explicit responsibilities and deadlines.

Coordinate with sales, dispatch, procurement and operations to resolve financial discrepancies.
