Assistant Manager Purchase – Kolkata

About the role

Heraeus Electro-Nite is looking for an experienced and proactive procurement leader to lead the Purchase function in Kolkata. You will oversee the end-to-end procurement of direct and indirect materials, ensuring reliable supply while driving strategic sourcing, supplier development, cost optimisation and strong procurement governance.

Working closely with Management, Finance & Controlling, Operations, Planning, Production, Warehouse, Quality and Logistics, you will strengthen procurement processes, support operational efficiency and contribute to business growth. You will lead a team of four direct reports. The role currently reports to the Country Manager, with a planned future reporting line to the Operations Manager.

Key responsibilities

- Lead end-to-end procurement and develop strategies that support material availability and business continuity.
- Drive cost optimisation through strategic sourcing, supplier negotiations, spend analysis and market benchmarking.
- Develop and manage a reliable supplier base, evaluate supplier performance and identify alternative sources to mitigate supply risks.
- Lead, mentor and develop the Purchase team, setting transparent expectations and fostering accountability and continuous improvement.
- Review and improve procurement processes, including SAP-enabled automation and process standardisation.
- Ensure compliance with company policies,



statutory requirements and procurement procedures. Uphold the Four-Eye Principle, Delegation of Authority and internal controls.
- Maintain accurate SAP transactions and master data, and monitor procurement reports, dashboards and system compliance.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams on procurement planning, budget adherence, inventory levels and timely issue resolution.
- Support audits and maintain accurate procurement documentation.

Qualifications and experience

- Bachelor's degree; an engineering or technical qualification is preferred.
- 10–12 years of progressive experience in procurement or purchasing.
- At least 3 years of experience in a team leadership role.
- Hands-on experience with the SAP Procurement Module is mandatory.
- Advanced MS Excel and MS Office skills.
- Experience in strategic sourcing, supplier development, commercial negotiations, cost analysis and contract management.
- Manufacturing industry experience is highly preferred.
- An MBA in Supply Chain or Operations is preferred, but not mandatory.
