Summary: We are looking for a Senior Android React Native Framework Developer to make the RNPS framework buildable, testable, and maintainable on Android. You will support both framework maintainers and external app developers. The role begins with native dependency management, Gradle and Conan integration, and CI feasibility, and then expands into runtime work, PSUI integration, launcher packaging, and the external contributor path once the build gates are proven. The Opportunity: Key Roles & Responsibilities
• Define the Android baseline, including supported JDK, Gradle Plugin, Kotlin, NDK, SDK/API level, and ABI targets (arm64-v8a primary, x86_64 for emulator).
• Create and maintain Conan 2, CMake, Ninja, and Gradle build configurations for RNPS on Android within the rnps-next monorepo.
• Integrate and evolve RNPS framework components, including ReactCommon, Hermes, JSI, Fabric, and TurboModules, while keeping Android-specific logic in the correct ownership layers (runtime AAR, Gradle plugin, launcher).
• Own the Android developer launcher, rnps-runtime AAR packaging, jniLibs deployment, and Maven/Artifactory publication paths used by app teams.
• Work with PSUI and graphics owners to validate rendering, assets, lifecycle, focus and input handling, and diagnostics on Android.
• Deliver repeatable check-env, validate, prebuild, build,
and launch workflows for external Android sample apps using rnps-android-cli.
• Improve CODEOWNERS and review routing, integration documentation, and CI coverage, including native tests, logs, and actionable failure diagnostics. What you need: Required
Skills:
• Strong React Native development and debugging skills across JavaScript, native modules, Metro, Hermes, and runtime issues on Android.
• Strong C++17/20 skills, including cross-platform architecture, ownership boundaries, concurrency, and native debugging with NDK, lldb, or gdb.
• Hands-on experience with Java and/or Kotlin, Android libraries (AAR), Gradle, Android Studio, and React Native host or launcher applications.
• Hands-on Android native development with NDK, CMake, ABI management, Prefab, and packaging of .so libraries into AAR or APK files.
• Production experience with CMake and native dependency management. Conan 2 experience is strongly preferred.
• Working knowledge of ELF shared libraries, jniLibs layout, ABI compatibility, and Gradle/Maven dependency resolution, including private Artifactory repositories.
• Ability to design platform boundaries, write automated tests, review code, and communicate technical trade-offs clearly. Desired
Skills:
• React Native internals: ReactCommon, Hermes, JSI, Fabric, TurboModules, legacy NativeModules, bridgeless startup, or Metro bundling for PlayStation applications.
• Experience with rnps-android-cli, external app integration, or framework maintainer workflows (yarn rnps-next build).
• Embedded or console-adjacent Android development, WSL or devcontainer setups,
or multi-repo monorepo governance.
• Graphics or UI runtime experience with PSUI, Vulkan or OpenGL ES on Android, input tokens, or rendering diagnostics. Qualification:
• B.
Tech or equivalent degree in Computer Science, Electronics, Information Technology, or a related engineering discipline.
• 4 to 10 years of professional experience in Android native development and React Native framework development.
