About the Role
SAT n paper is looking for a hands-on Engineering Lead to build and scale our technology platform for online test preparation and personalized learning. You will lead technical development across our web application, backend services, databases, and cloud infrastructure. You’ll work closely with the founders, product team, and engineers to turn business ideas into reliable, secure, and scalable software. This role combines hands-on coding, technical decision-making, and team leadership in a fast-moving startup environment. What You’ll Do
• Build the product: Lead development of web applications and backend services using Python, Django, React, and PostgreSQL.
• Own architecture: Design APIs, data models, and application components that are maintainable, secure, and scalable.
• Manage cloud infrastructure: Deploy and operate applications on Microsoft Azure, including Azure Kubernetes Service (AKS).
• Drive automation: Build reliable CI/CD pipelines, containerized deployments, automated testing, and release workflows.
• Ensure security and reliability: Implement secure authentication, access controls, secrets management, monitoring, logging, and backup and recovery practices.
• Improve performance: Optimize database queries, application response times, and cloud resource utilization.
• Lead engineering execution: Break down requirements, review code, establish engineering standards, and ensure timely delivery.
• Grow the team: Mentor engineers, encourage ownership, and build a culture of quality, collaboration, and continuous improvement. What We’re Looking For Required
• 7+ years of software engineering experience, with at least 2 years in a technical leadership or team-leading role.
• Strong hands-on experience with Python, Django, REST APIs, React,



and JavaScript or TypeScript.
• Solid experience with PostgreSQL, including schema design, query optimization, and performance troubleshooting.
• Practical experience with Docker, Kubernetes, and deploying production applications on Azure, preferably AKS.
• Experience with CI/CD pipelines, automated testing, Git, and production deployment practices.
• Valuable understanding of web application security, cloud identity and access management, and secrets management.
• Ability to make sound technical decisions, debug complex problems, and take ownership of production systems.
• Strong communication skills and the ability to work in a team-oriented, fast-paced startup workplace. Nice to Have
• Experience with Azure Key Vault, Azure Container Registry, Azure Monitor, and Azure networking.
• Experience with Terraform or Bicep for infrastructure as code.
• Knowledge of Redis, background jobs, caching, and asynchronous processing.
• Experience with application performance monitoring, load testing, and cloud cost optimization.
• Experience building EdTech, SaaS, or other customer-facing web products. What Success Looks Like
