About the Role
You are the person who takes Oscar out of our office and into a real factory. You install it on the customer's machines, sit beside their design and reverse-engineering engineers, and take on their actual backlog of parts. You stay until Oscar is doing real production work for them. This is not a sales role or a support role, though you will do some of both. Think of it as being a field engineer for a new kind of machine. You own each deployment end to end: the IT conversation, the install, the first week of real parts, and the moment a sceptical senior engineer watches Oscar finish a part they expected to redraw by hand. You are also our fastest product feedback loop. What blocks you on site becomes the roadmap. You file the bugs, write up the gaps, and work directly with the founders to close them, often within days.
What You'll Do
• Deploy Oscar on site. Install the Oscar add-on in FreeCAD on customer machines, fit it into how their team already works, and get engineers using it in the first week.
• Work their real backlog. Rebuild legacy, worn and replacement parts with Oscar (shafts, sleeves, bushings, flanges, brackets) and export editable CAD into the tools they already use.
• Measure and check parts. Capture dimensions with verniers, micrometers and height gauges, and with 3D scanners or a CMM where available. Then check Oscar's model against the physical part.
• Recover design intent. Work out with the customer's engineers which size is wear and which was the intended nominal, using ISO fits, metric and inch standards, and any drawings that survive.
• Build our real-part benchmark. Collect authorised scans and parts with known dimensions from design partners, so our scan-to-CAD release is tested on shop-floor data, not just synthetic parts.
• Record the proof. Time each job with and without Oscar, log every correction, and write short case notes the customer signs off.
• Be the product channel. File clear bug reports (file, steps, screenshot), write up missing features, and test fixes on site with the founders.
• Train the team. Run short sessions and write one-page guides, so engineers keep using Oscar after you move to the next site. Your First Six Months:
• Weeks 1–2:
Learn Oscar inside out on our reference parts, and shadow scanning and reverse-engineering jobs at Accurex Measurement Technologies, our design partner.
• Weeks 3–6: Run your first customer deployment alongside a founder.
• Months 2–4: Own two or three deployments yourself, from install to signed-off case note.
• Months 5–6: Run deployments independently, write our deployment playbook, and have the PPO conversation. What We're Looking For: Must Have
• A final-year B.
E., B.
Tech or M.
Tech, or a 2025–26 degree, in Mechanical, Automobile, Production, Industrial or Aerospace engineering.
• Solid in at least one CAD tool (SOLIDWORKS, Fusion, Creo, NX, CATIA, Onshape or FreeCAD). You can build a clean, fully constrained parametric model.
• You read engineering drawings and understand GD&T;, tolerances, and ISO limits and fits.
• You have measured real parts with hand instruments and can spot wear on a part.
• Comfortable on a shop floor, and happy to travel to customer sites across Bengaluru and sometimes further.
• Clear spoken and written English. Kannada, Hindi or Tamil helps with shop-floor teams.
• Curious about AI: you pick up a new tool fast and enjoy finding where it breaks. Nice to Have
• Hands-on time with a 3D scanner (Creaform, FARO, Shining 3D or similar) or a CMM.
• Experience with scan-to-CAD software such as Geomagic Design X or QuickSurface.
• Python scripting, especially FreeCAD macros or another CAD tool's API.
• Team projects such as SAE BAJA, Formula Student or robotics, or a machine you built or repaired yourself.
• An internship at an OEM, tool room, MRO shop or reverse-engineering bureau. What You Get:
• Direct mentorship from both founders from week one: a metrology and reverse-engineering specialist, and an AI engineer.
• Real work on real parts for mechanical, automobile and defence customers,
not a sandbox project.
• A rare skill mix. Scanning, metrology, design intent and AI-assisted CAD in one role.
• Your field notes shape the product. What you report on Monday can ship by Friday.
• A pre-placement offer for strong performers: a full-time founding role with ESOPs, once our pre-seed round closes.
• Site travel paid, plus an internship certificate and a letter of recommendation. About OriginShape: OriginShape builds Oscar, an AI copilot that reverse engineers a part as it was designed, for the mechanical, automobile and defence industries. Rebuilding a critical, worn or freeform part today is slow, specialist work in third-party tools such as Geomagic or QuickSurface. Oscar runs inside FreeCAD as a team of specialist agents. It measures the part, traces its profiles, proposes design sizes from real mechanical standards, builds an editable feature tree, checks it, and exports it to the engineer's CAD. The engineer confirms every design size and signs off every part. Today Oscar builds editable models from an engineer's prompt and inputs. Scan-to-CAD is our next release, and you will help take it to customers. We are founded by Sumith Jain (CEO), founder of Accurex Measurement Technologies with 7+ years in 3D scanning, CMM inspection and reverse engineering, and Abhishek Sira Chandrashekar (CTO), who has 10+ years building production software and an MSc in AI from Leiden University. We are a small team in Bengaluru and have not launched yet, so you will be among the first people to put Oscar in front of real engineers.
How to Apply
Email your application to
[email protected] with the subject line "FDE Intern — your name". Send us:
• Your CV, one page.
• One part you modelled from a real object or drawing: screenshots plus the CAD file or a link.
• Three lines on the hardest part you have measured or modelled, and what made it hard. What happens next:
• A 20-minute call with a founder.
• A practical task: measure a part we give you and build it as a parametric model (about 3 hours, take-home).
• A half-day on site with the founders, working on a real part.
• A decision within a week of the site visit.
