What You Will Do We are building a recent AI-native, product-led engineering organization at Prudential Japan and are looking for VPs of Engineering who want to help define the future of technology, engineering talent, and business transformation. This role is responsible for leading one or more major functional remits within Japan Product Engineering. VPs of Engineering will lead Directors of Engineering, senior technical leaders, and product-aligned engineering teams to modernize legacy systems, redesign business workflows, and deliver AI-enabled capabilities that improve customer experience, operational efficiency, risk reduction, and business growth. This is not a traditional offshore delivery leadership role. We are looking for senior builder-leaders who combine engineering depth, product thinking, AI adoption, organizational leadership, and executive influence. The VP of Engineering will help establish the Global Capability Center (GCC) as a strategic extension of Prudential Japan Technology, building long-term engineering capability, talent density, and modern product engineering practices. What You Can Expect Japan Technology Transformation & Business Growth
• Lead one or more major functional remits that accelerate Prudential Japan’s Technology Transformation initiative
• Partner with business, product, design, architecture, security, data, AI, platform, and technology leaders to modernize platforms, simplify legacy complexity, and improve how the business operates
• Drive adoption of AI-enabled products and workflows that improve customer experience, employee productivity, distribution effectiveness, operational efficiency, and risk management Product Engineering Leadership
• Own strategy, execution, talent, and engineering outcomes for one or more major functional domains
• Lead Directors of Engineering, senior engineers, and technical leaders across product-aligned and platform-aligned teams
• Define the engineering roadmap, operating model, delivery standards, and capability-building agenda for the assigned remit




• Ensure teams focus on business outcomes, customer value, engineering quality, operational excellence, and long-term sustainability
• Translate Japan business and technology priorities into scalable engineering plans that can be executed effectively from the GCC AI-First Engineering
• Define and scale practical AI-first engineering practices across the functional remit
• Drive adoption of AI throughout the software development lifecycle, including design, coding, testing, documentation, release management, observability, and operations
• Help teams identify opportunities to embed AI into products, customer journeys, employee workflows, and business processes
• Improve engineering productivity, quality, speed, and developer experience through responsible use of AI-assisted engineering
• Foster an AI-native mindset where teams challenge legacy processes, redesign work, and continuously improve how technology is built and operated
• Ensure AI adoption is balanced with security, compliance, privacy, model risk, and enterprise governance expectations Engineering Excellence
• Establish and reinforce modern software engineering practices, including agile product delivery, DevSecOps, CI/CD, automated testing, observability, and secure-by-design development
• Provide senior technical leadership across architecture, platform design, engineering standards, and production quality.
• Ensure solutions are scalable, resilient, maintainable, secure, and supportable in production
• Drive measurable improvements in engineering productivity, system reliability, product quality, delivery predictability, and operational resilience
• Balance speed, quality, risk, cost, and long-term technology sustainability Build and Scale the GCC Engineering Organization
• Recruit, develop, and retain high-caliber engineering leaders and technical talent across full-stack, front-end, AI, cloud, data, platform, cybersecurity, and other engineering disciplines
• Build a strong leadership bench of Directors of Engineering, technical leads, and future engineering managers
• Establish scalable engineering operating rhythms, governance, metrics, and talent practices as the GCC grows
• Create a culture centered on accountability, engineering excellence, continuous learning, innovation, customer outcomes, and responsible AI adoption
• Help position the GCC as a strategic talent engine and execution partner for Prudential, not merely a delivery location Talent, Culture & Leadership Development

Vendor & Workforce Transformation
• Support Prudential’s strategy to reduce dependency on external vendors while increasing internal capability and institutional knowledge
• Lead transition of selected work from external partners into sustainable internal engineering teams
• Ensure vendors operate as integrated members of product and engineering teams, with clear accountability for shared outcomes
• Improve engineering productivity, delivery predictability, quality, and vendor effectiveness
• Build internal capabilities that allow Prudential Japan to move faster, retain critical knowledge, and reduce long-term operational risk Experience What you will bring:
• 15+ years of technology leadership experience in large, complex organizations
• Proven experience building and scaling high-performing engineering teams or organizations
• Experience leading Directors, engineering managers, and distributed engineering teams
• Strong track record delivering modern digital products, platforms, modernization programs, or enterprise technology transformation
• Experience operating across global teams and partnering with business stakeholders, product teams, and other functions
• Experience managing hybrid delivery models with internal teams and strategic vendor partners
• Experience in financial services, insurance, or regulated industries preferred but not required Technical Background
• Strong software engineering foundation with experience in one or more modern technology stacks
• Experience with cloud-native technologies, APIs, microservices, and modern application architectures
• Experience making architecture, platform, and technical design decisions for complex enterprise systems
• Familiarity with DevOps, CI/CD, automated testing, observability, and software engineering best practices
• Understanding of AI-assisted software development and emerging AI technologies
