Senior Inpatient Biller *Inpatient Facility Billing | Coding Knowledge | Charge Capture | EMR/Billing System Development
* Position Summary We are seeking a highly experienced Senior Inpatient Biller who can independently own and perform inpatient facility billing from account review through claim production. This is a hands-on production role, not an advisory or oversight-only position. The successful candidate is expected to determine what should be billed, identify and enter required charges when necessary, produce accurate claims, resolve billing issues, and drive assigned accounts to completion. The individual must have the experience and judgment to work independently in an evolving environment while identifying workflow or system gaps and providing clear, practical feedback that improves billing accuracy and efficiency.

Key Responsibilities
· Perform end-to-end inpatient facility billing and claim production, including detailed review of patient accounts before claim submission.
· Determine, identify, enter, and validate inpatient room-and-board charges, accommodation levels, dates of service, units/days, ancillary charges, procedures, medications, supplies, and other inpatient services required for complete and accurate billing.
· Understand inpatient facility claim structure, including UB-04/837I requirements, revenue codes, occurrence/value/condition information, discharge status, bill types, and other data elements affecting claim accuracy.
· Apply strong coding knowledge when reviewing inpatient accounts and recognize when documentation, coding, charge capture, or claim configuration appears incomplete or inconsistent.
· Identify missing charges, duplicate charges, incorrect revenue-code assignments, incorrect units, charge timing issues, and other potential revenue leakage before claims are released.
· Own and resolve edits, rejections, billing holds, missing information, and other claim-production issues necessary to move assigned inpatient accounts through billing.
· Perform manual billing,



charge entry, claim preparation, and account correction whenever required to ensure assigned accounts are completed accurately and timely.
· Actively test new billing functionality and validate that system-generated claims accurately reflect inpatient services and billing requirements.
· Document system gaps and communicate transparent requirements to EMR and billing-software developers, including what information must be captured, how charges should flow, and what controls or edits are needed.
· Provide practical feedback to improve charge capture, claim generation, work queues, edits, reports, and overall inpatient billing workflows.
· Track personal productivity, billing volumes, unresolved issues, and recurring system defects; escalate trends that may affect revenue or compliance.
· Maintain ownership of assigned inpatient accounts from billing readiness through successful claim submission and correction. Required Qualifications
· Extensive hands-on healthcare billing experience in the specialty/setting described for this position; this is not an entry-level role.
· Strong practical coding knowledge and the ability to understand how documentation, coding, charges, revenue codes, claim fields, and reimbursement connect.
· Demonstrated ability to independently produce claims, review charges, identify missing or incorrect billing elements, resolve edits, and follow claims through the billing cycle.
· Ability to work effectively when workflows are not fully automated, including performing accurate manual billing and charge review when necessary.




· Ability to learn unfamiliar EMRs and billing applications quickly and adapt to changing workflows.
· Strong written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to translate billing requirements into clear functional feedback for EMR, billing software, and development teams.
· High attention to detail, strong ownership, and the ability to work independently with limited supervision.
· Deep knowledge of inpatient hospital/facility billing, including room-and-board and ancillary charging.
· Solid working knowledge of UB-04/837I institutional billing and inpatient revenue-code usage.
· Ability to understand the relationship among inpatient coding, patient status, length of stay, charges, and facility reimbursement. Preferred Qualifications
· Experience participating in an EMR, practice management, patient accounting, or billing-system implementation, conversion, build, testing, or optimization project.
· Experience creating workflow requirements, testing system functionality, identifying defects or missing functionality, and validating billing outputs.
· Experience working directly with technical, implementation, or software development teams.
· Hospital inpatient billing experience across multiple service lines and payer types.
· Experience with claim scrubbers, clearinghouses, patient accounting systems, or hospital charge-master workflows. What Success Looks Like
· Inpatient claims are produced accurately and timely even while portions of the system remain manual.
· Missing or incorrect charges are identified before billing rather than after denial or underpayment.
· System gaps are clearly documented and converted into actionable requirements for the development team.
· New functionality is tested from a biller's perspective and produces complete, accurate institutional claims.
