We have been mandated by a large conglomerate into Metal & Mining business for the below mentioned role.

Position -Manager / Deputy Manager (Coal Mining Safety)

Location: Madhya pradesh

Qualification : B tech Mining / BE Mining & Ist Class Mining Engineer

Experience-7-12 Years

Job Purpose

The incumbent will lead the planning, implementation, and monitoring of safety management systems across underground and/or opencast coal mining operations. The role ensures compliance with statutory requirements, drives risk reduction, and builds a strong safety culture to achieve zero fatalities and zero reliable injuries.

Key Responsibilities

1. Statutory Compliance

Ensure compliance with the Mines Act 1952, Coal Mines Regulations 2017, Mines Rules 1955, Mines Rescue Rules 1985, Mines Vocational Training Rules 1966, and relevant DGMS circulars and directives.

Liaise with DGMS and other regulatory authorities; prepare for inspections and ensure timely closure of compliance observations.

Maintain statutory records, returns, notices, and reports.

2. Risk Management & Safety Management Plan (SMP)

Develop, update, and implement the Safety Management Plan and Principal Hazard Management Plans (PHMPs).

Conduct risk assessments (baseline, issue-based, and continuous), HAZOP, and job safety analyses.

Monitor critical risks such as roof/side falls, methane and gas explosions, spontaneous heating and fires, inundation, dust explosions, slope failures, and HEMM/transport accidents.

3. Inspections, Audits & Monitoring





Plan and conduct regular mine inspections, safety audits, and workplace examinations.

Oversee ventilation surveys, gas monitoring, dust sampling, and strata monitoring.

Review the performance of support systems, machinery, electrical installations, and explosives handling.

4. Incident Management

Lead investigations of accidents, dangerous occurrences, and near misses; carry out root cause analysis.

Ensure timely statutory reporting and implementation of corrective and preventive actions.

Analyze accident trends and publish safety performance reports (frequency and severity rates, etc.).

5. Emergency Preparedness & Mines Rescue

Develop and maintain Emergency Response Plans and conduct regular mock drills.

Oversee rescue stations, trained rescue teams, and rescue equipment readiness.

Coordinate during emergencies as part of the incident control team.

6. Training & Safety Culture

Plan and deliver induction, refresher, and job-specific training in line with vocational training norms.

Run safety awareness campaigns, Safety Weeks, and behavior-based safety programs.

Coordinate Pit Safety Committees, Workmens Inspectors, and Safety Committee meetings.

7. Technology & Continuous Improvement

Promote adoption of safety technologies such as real-time gas monitoring, tracking and communication systems, proximity warning systems, and slope radar.

Benchmark against national and international best practices and recommend improvements.
