Backend Microservices Engineering Lead (Golang, Java/Spring Boot)

Location: India - 100% Remote
Working hours: Must overlap with US Central Time working hours
Engagement: Contract
Experience: 8+ years total in backend engineering, including hands-on lead experience
Work authorization: Must be eligible to work in India

About the Role

Our client, a large US enterprise, runs its engineering delivery through PODs. As the POD's Engineering Lead you are a hands-on backend engineer who owns the POD's day-to-day technical delivery. You work directly with the client's Engineering Managers and Engineering Leads, and you lead a team of developers.

Key Responsibilities

Leadership and delivery

- Lead day-to-day technical delivery for the assigned POD
- Work directly with client Engineering Managers and Engineering Leads
- Take part in sprint planning, backlog refinement and technical discussions
- Give delivery estimates and identify dependencies
- Drive sprint commitments to completion
- Ensure engineering standards, testing requirements and documentation are met
- Identify risks, resolve blockers and escalate issues when needed
- Coordinate production incident response
- Mentor developers and promote engineering best practices
- Support automation-first QA and AI-assisted delivery initiatives

Engineering (hands-on)

- Design, develop and maintain enterprise backend services in Golang and Java/Spring Boot




- Design and implement microservices architectures
- Build and maintain integrations between enterprise systems
- Build and run containerized applications with Docker on AWS
- Implement reliable REST API services and use Redis for caching and data access
- Maintain CI/CD pipelines in Git Lab
- Troubleshoot application and infrastructure performance issues
- Improve system reliability, scalability and maintainability
- Support production incidents and root-cause analysis
- Write unit tests and contribute to test automation

Required Skills

- 8+ years of backend development experience
- Hands-on production experience in Golang (Go)
- Hands-on production experience in Java and Spring Boot
- Microservices architecture and REST API design
- AWS and Docker
- Redis
- Git Lab and CI/CD pipelines
- Proven experience leading enterprise engineering teams while staying hands-on
