Technical Project Manager - On-Prem to Cloud Migration (Migration Factory)

Role Summary The Technical Project Manager (TPM) leads and coordinates large-scale on-premise to cloud migration initiatives within an enterprise Migration Factory. This role drives structured execution across assessment, mobilization, migration, cutover, and post-migration optimization phases. The TPM ensures that each application s migration path-rehost, replatform, refactor, or retire-is delivered on time, within scope, and aligned with cloud architecture, security, and compliance standards.

Key Responsibilities

Migration Factory Delivery

- Manage multiple concurrent application migration workstreams through factory phases: Discovery Assessment Wave Planning Migration Cutover Hypercare.
- Own delivery of assigned applications, coordinating with app owners, infra teams, cloud architects, and security teams.
- Maintain migration dashboards, RAID logs, wave plans, and execution trackers.
- Ensure migration activities follow factory playbooks, landing zone standards, and cloud governance guidelines.

Technical Leadership

- Translate migration patterns (rehost, replatform, refactor) into actionable tasks for engineering teams.
- Understanding cloud architecture designs, network connectivity, IAM models, and landing zone readiness.




- Support troubleshooting during migration execution, including data transfer, replication, cutover, and rollback.
- Make sure the technical artifacts such as runbooks, architecture diagrams, firewall rules, and deployment plans are available.

Stakeholder & Cross-Team Coordination

- Act as the primary liaison between application teams, cloud engineering, networking, security, and business owners.
- Provide clear, executive-ready status updates on migration progress, risks, dependencies, and blockers.
- Facilitate daily standups, wave-planning sessions, and migration readiness reviews.
- Coordinate vendor deliverables and ensure alignment with SOWs and migration timelines.

Risk, Compliance & Governance

- Ensure migrations adhere to cloud security standards, IAM guardrails, encryption policies, and compliance frameworks.
- Manage change requests, cutover approvals, rollback strategies, and post-migration validation.
- Drive remediation of audit findings and cure-plan items discovered during migration.

Cutover & Hypercare

- Plan and execute production cutovers, including data sync, DNS changes, firewall updates, and application switchover.
- Coordinate end-to-end testing, regression testing, and performance validation.
- Oversee hypercare support, SLA tracking, and stabilization activities for migrated applications.

Required Skills & Qualifications

Technical Skills

- Strong understanding of AWS/Azure/GCP migration methodologies, landing zones, VPC/VNet design, IAM, and cloud networking.




- Experience with migration tools such as CloudEndure, Azure Migrate, Database Migration Service, VMware HCX.
- Familiarity with modernization technologies: containers, Kubernetes, CI/CD pipelines, serverless, and microservices.
- Ability to interpret technical artifacts: architecture diagrams, API specs, firewall rules, and deployment scripts.

Project Management Skills

- Expertise in Agile, Scrum, and Waterfall delivery models.
- Experience managing in-flight migration workstreams and picking up partially completed projects.
- Proficiency with JIRA, Confluence, MS Project, Smartsheet, and migration dashboards.
- Strong skills in budgeting, forecasting, vendor management, and resource planning.

Soft Skills

Experience Requirements
