Position: Cost Accountant

Job Purpose The Cost Accountant will be responsible for planning, analysing, and controlling costs related to FMCG/Consumer Durables manufacturing operations. The role focuses on accurate product costing, inventory valuation, budgeting, variance analysis, and providing actionable insights to support pricing, profitability, and operational efficiency in a high-volume, fast-moving production environment.

Key Responsibilities

Costing & Product Cost Management

- Prepare and maintain accurate product cost sheets for products, including raw materials, packaging, labour, and overheads.
- Develop and monitor standard costing systems for high-volume SKUs.
- Review and update BOMs and routing costs in coordination with production and R&D; teams.
- Ensure correct absorption and allocation of manufacturing overheads.

Cost Control & Efficiency Improvement

- Monitor manufacturing costs and identify cost-saving opportunities in materials, packaging, conversion costs, and logistics.
- Analyze wastage, scrap, yield losses, and process inefficiencies common in manufacturing operations.
- Support continuous improvement initiatives and cost optimization projects.

Budgeting & Forecasting

- Assist in preparation of annual budgets and periodic forecasts for manufacturing plants.
- Track actual costs against budgets and highlight variances.
- Support scenario analysis for volume changes, new product launches, and promotional schemes.

Variance Analysis & MIS Reporting

- Perform detailed material price, usage, labor, overhead, and production variance analysis.
- Prepare monthly MIS reports for management, including SKU-wise and plant-wise profitability.
- Provide timely explanations for variances and recommend corrective actions.

Inventory & WIP Management

- Ensure accurate valuation of Raw Materials, Packaging Materials, WIP,



and Finished Goods as per accounting standards.
- Monitor inventory turnover, slow-moving and obsolete inventory.
- Coordinate and support physical stock counts and resolve discrepancies.

Pricing & Profitability Analysis

- Support sales and marketing teams with cost data for pricing, promotions, and discount schemes.
- Analyze profitability by SKU, brand, channel, and geography.
- Assist in make-or-buy and vendor comparison decisions.

Compliance & Audit Support

- Ensure compliance with cost accounting standards, internal controls, and company policies.
- Support statutory audits, internal audits, and cost audits (if applicable).
- Maintain proper documentation and audit trails.

Cross-Functional Coordination

- Work closely with Production, Supply Chain, Procurement, Quality, R&D;, and Sales teams.
- Provide cost inputs for new product development (NPD) and packaging changes.

Qualifications & Skills

- CMA with 4-5 years of cost accounting experience in a manufacturing environment
- Solid understanding of cost accounting methods (standard costing, job costing, process costing)
- Proficiency in ERP systems and Microsoft Excel
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
- Attention to detail and high level of accuracy
- Ability to communicate financial information clearly to non-finance teams
