Job Summary

We are looking for an experienced Senior Databricks Engineer with solid hands-on expertise in healthcare data engineering and HIPAA/PHI security.

The ideal candidate must have practical experience working with Protected Health Information (PHI) in healthcare projects, along with expertise in Databricks development, Unity Catalog, data governance, and cloud security.

The initial engagement will primarily involve assessing existing Databricks environments, identifying security gaps, and providing technical recommendations. Further implementation activities may be discussed based on project requirements.

Key Responsibilities

- Assess existing Databricks environments and identify security gaps related to PHI.
- Support Databricks development and data engineering activities.
- Implement and manage access controls using Unity Catalog.
- Configure workspace permissions, user groups, service principals, and access policies.
- Implement row-level security, column masking, and data protection controls.
- Review encryption, secure credentials, and cloud storage security.
- Support AWS/Azure security configurations for Databricks environments.
- Monitor logs, review data access, and support security investigations.
- Implement and test approved security controls.
- Prepare technical documentation, security assessment reports, and testing evidence.
- Collaborate with architects and security teams on remediation activities.

Mandatory Skills & Experience





- 8–9 years of overall IT experience.
- Strong hands-on experience with Databricks and data engineering.
- Mandatory: Practical experience working with PHI data in healthcare projects.
- Experience implementing or assessing security controls for sensitive healthcare data.
- Strong knowledge of Unity Catalog, access governance, and data permissions.
- Working knowledge of AWS or Azure cloud security.
- Experience with encryption, data masking, secure storage, and access management.
- Understanding of Databricks security features for HIPAA-regulated workloads.
- Experience with logging, monitoring, and security testing.
- Ability to prepare technical documentation and security recommendations.

Preferred Skills

- Healthcare or life sciences domain experience.
- Terraform or Infrastructure as Code (IaC).
- PHI de-identification and data masking.
- Knowledge of HIPAA Security Rule technical safeguards.
- Databricks or cloud certifications.

Expected Deliverables

- Technical assessment and security gap analysis.
- Databricks security configuration recommendations.
- Implementation and testing of approved security controls.
- Technical documentation and project handover.

Important Requirement

Candidates without actual hands-on PHI-related healthcare project experience will not be considered.

General Databricks development or cloud security experience alone is not sufficient.
