Role Description The Freelance Competitive Exam Mentor will provide remote, contract-based academic mentoring to K–12 students preparing for standardized tests and national competitions. Day-to-day responsibilities include planning and delivering live online sessions, explaining complex concepts in an accessible way, and guiding learners through problem-solving strategies for exams such as the Digital SAT, ACT, AP, AMC, MATHCOUNTS, Math Kangaroo, USACO, and science olympiads. The Mentor will review diagnostic assessments, track learner progress using Skillzy’s LMS, and adjust teaching plans based on individual strengths and needs.



Additional tasks include creating or refining practice materials, offering exam-taking tips, communicating with families when needed, and maintaining a supportive, inclusive learning environment aligned with Skillzy’s pedagogy and child-safety standards. Qualifications
• Strong subject-matter expertise in one or more areas such as Mathematics, English, Science, Computer Science/Coding, or related fields.
• Demonstrated experience mentoring or teaching students for competitive exams (e.g., Digital SAT, ACT, AP, AMC, MATHCOUNTS, Math Kangaroo, USACO, Science Olympiads).
• Proficiency with online teaching tools and learning management systems, including video conferencing platforms and digital whiteboards.
• Ability to design and adapt lesson plans, practice problems, and strategies based on diagnostic data and learner performance.
• Excellent communication, classroom management in virtual settings, and the ability to engage small groups effectively.
• Commitment to child safety, ethical tutoring practices, and creating an inclusive, non-discriminatory learning workplace.
• Bachelor’s degree in Education, Mathematics, English, Science, Computer Science, or a related discipline; advanced degrees or notable competition achievements are a plus.
• Prior experience with US curriculum and assessment standards; familiarity with data-driven instruction and progress tracking is highly beneficial.
