About Saft Saft, a subsidiary of TotalEnergies, is a global leader in advanced battery technologies, delivering innovative energy storage solutions for industrial, transportation, telecommunications, and renewable energy applications. As part of Saft's innovation roadmap, the AC Battery Project aims to develop next-generation battery systems integrating advanced power electronics, battery management, and grid-interactive functionalities. We are seeking a talented and motivated Power Electronics Engineer to join our Bangalore engineering team and contribute to the development of cutting-edge power conversion platforms. Position Summary The Control Engineer will be responsible for the specification, design, modelling, tuning, implementation, and validation of the closed-loop control laws and application logic embedded in innovative AC battery systems. Working in MATLAB/Simulink, the successful candidate will develop control functions, state machines, mode management, protections, and diagnostics, and will verify their behaviour through simulation, MIL/SIL/HIL activities, and test-data analysis. The role covers the complete development cycle, from requirements definition and control design through laboratory validation and deployment on the embedded target, in close collaboration with system architects, embedded software, electronics, test teams.
Key Responsibilities
• Design, tune, implement, and validate closed-loop control functions for electric and electonic systems, such as current, power,
• Develop Simulink functions for control logic, sequencing, state machines, mode management, enable logic, limiters, protections, diagnostics,
and actuator command generation.
• Build and use control-oriented models, simulations, and test-data replay workflows to support design and validation.
• Analyze controller performance, stability, robustness, actuator saturation, sensor limitations, delays, nonlinearities, and operating envelope constraints.
• Implement practical control features such as PID, feedforward, filtering, gain scheduling, anti-windup, bumpless transfer, and mode-dependent control logic.
• Support MIL, SIL, HIL, and test-data analysis activities to verify the behaviour of the control application before deployment.
• Document design choices, assumptions, interfaces, validation results, limitations, and remaining risks.
• Work closely with architecture, embedded software, electronics, test, modelling, and systems engineering teams. Required Qualifications Education
• Engineering degree or equivalent experience in control systems, electrical, mechanical, automotive, robotics, or a related field. Experience
• Minimum 5 years of industrial experience in automotive, aerospace, propulsion, robotics, energy, industrial automation, or another safety-critical energetic system would be highly relevant. Technical Skills
• Practical experience developing functions in MATLAB/Simulink.
• Good understanding of feedback control, system dynamics, stability, filtering, and controller tuning.
• Experience implementing and testing control or embedded application logic for a real physical system.
• Ability to analyze logs, simulation results, and test data to understand system behaviour and improve the design.
• Experience with state machines, mode logic, diagnostics, calibration, validation, or production-style Simulink models would be highly appreciated.
• Familiarity with state estimation, system identification, optimization or robust control would be a strong plus.
• Experience with MIL, SIL, HIL, automatic code generation, or embedded control workflows would be appreciated. Soft Skills
• Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
• Ability to work independently while collaborating within multidisciplinary teams.
• Excellent communication and technical documentation skills.
