MDM Technical Process Engineer – Product / Material Master Data

Gurgaon, India Work Model: Hybrid Employment Type: Permanent Role Overview We are looking for an experienced MDM Technical Process Engineer with strong expertise in SAP Master Data Governance (MDG), SAP S/4HANA and ABAP technical concepts to support enterprise-wide Product and Material Master Data Governance. The role will be part of the Data and Platform Governance function, responsible for implementing and maintaining master data governance processes, improving data quality, and ensuring consistency, accuracy and integrity of product and material master data across business systems. The ideal candidate should combine functional knowledge of SAP MDG and MDM processes with technical understanding of ABAP, BADIs, enhancements, workflows, integrations and SAP data structures.

Key Responsibilities
Master Data Management & Governance
• Maintain and continuously improve master data governance processes, from definition through implementation and execution.
• Configure and support SAP MDG and SimpleMDG functionalities, including data models, business rules, validation logic and approval workflows.
• Support Product / Material Master Data Governance within the SAP S/4HANA environment.
• Implement data governance policies, standards, guidelines and procedures to ensure consistent master data practices.
• Support the implementation and enhancement of MDM, data governance and data quality tools and platforms.
• Ensure integration of MDM and governance platforms with SAP S/4HANA, Salesforce and enterprise data platforms.
• Perform root cause analysis of master data issues and coordinate remediation activities.
• Develop data quality checks, audit mechanisms, validation methods, metrics and reports to monitor data integrity.




• Identify downstream impacts of master data changes across connected systems.
• Monitor integrations between MDM platforms and other enterprise applications.
• Support compliance reviews and ensure adherence to established data governance standards.
• Explore AI-driven and automated approaches to improve master data validation and quality. SAP MDG & ABAP Technical Responsibilities
• Analyse ABAP programs, user exits, BADIs and enhancement frameworks associated with SAP MDG and master data processes.
• Support the implementation and enhancement of BADIs used in MDG validation, derivation and workflow logic.
• Collaborate with ABAP development teams to review custom code and troubleshoot technical issues affecting master data governance.
• Analyse SAP tables, CDS views and data models to support data validation, reporting and governance requirements.
• Perform technical investigations and root cause analysis of MDG workflows, business rules and integration issues.
• Ensure custom developments align with SAP MDG governance standards and technical best practices.
• Support impact analysis for system changes, upgrades and SAP S/4HANA transformation initiatives affecting master data structures. Required Skills & Experience
• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Management Information Systems or a related discipline.
• Minimum 10 years of experience in Master Data Management,



Data Governance or Data Quality.
• Solid hands-on experience with SAP Master Data Governance (SAP MDG) and SAP S/4HANA.
• Experience configuring SAP MDG data models, governance processes, validation rules and approval workflows.
• Experience implementing or supporting MDM solutions across multiple organisations.
• Strong understanding of Product Master / Material Master Data Management.
• Working knowledge of ABAP technical concepts, including:
• BADIs and enhancement frameworks
• User exits and custom logic analysis
• ABAP debugging and code review
• SAP tables and data models
• CDS views and technical data structures
• Experience with SAP MDG integrations and connected enterprise applications.
• Ability to investigate master data issues and collaborate with functional and technical teams.
• Experience harmonising master data, systems and processes across business functions.
• Ability to work independently in an agile, fast-paced and globally distributed environment. Preferred Qualifications
• SAP MDG certification, particularly MDG100.
• Experience with SimpleMDG or other MDM platforms.
• Exposure to Product Information Management (PIM), Data Catalog and Data Quality tools.
• Understanding of product hierarchies, SKU management and product data lifecycle processes.
• Experience supporting SAP S/4HANA transformation or implementation programmes. Ideal Candidate Profile An experienced SAP MDG / MDM professional who understands both the functional and technical aspects of master data governance. The candidate should have hands-on experience with Product / Material Master Data, SAP S/4HANA, MDG configuration and ABAP-related technical analysis, including BADIs, enhancements and debugging.
