STEEL WELDER

ABOUT THE ROLE

This position is responsible for providing high-quality welding on military vessel structures, and ensuring compliance with IACS, AWS, and MIL-STD standards. This role involves welding panels, blocks, and structural components while maintaining strict quality and safety standards.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES The successful candidate will be responsible for:

 Complete welding tasks per daily production plans.

 Ensure welds meet IACS, AWS or similar Class Society standards.

 Perform visual inspections (VT) of completed welds.

 Adjust welding parameters (voltage, amperage) for optimal results.

 Follow hot work permits and fume extraction protocols.

 Report defects to QC Inspectors.

 Coordinate with Fitters and Grinders for joint preparation.

 Address weld defects (e.g., undercut, cracks) through rework.

 Follow WPS (Welding Procedure Specifications) rigorously.

 Meet daily targets for weld length and quality.

 Share best practices for reducing spatter and porosity.

 Recycle welding wire spools and slag per guidelines.

 Log weld maps, consumable usage, and repair logs.

 Basic use of welding monitoring systems (e.g., WeldCloud).





 Basic knowledge of MPI and UT for weld inspection.

Skills:

 Diagnose and repair welding defects efficiently.

 Expertise in arc flash prevention and PPE use.

 Team-oriented attitude for team-based projects.

 Effective team leadership and mentorship skills.

Key Competencies:

 Strong attention to welding quality and accuracy.

 Compliance with safety protocols and industry standards.

 Ability to work under pressure and meet production deadlines.

QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE

What we are looking for

 Diploma in a related field.

 Minimum 5 years of experience in shipyard welding on ship or submarine structures.

 Experience in IACS (International Association of Classification Societies) welding standards and inspections.

 Mastery of vertical, overhead, flat-position welding, and ceramic backing.

 Hands-on experience with ceramic backing butt welds.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

 Specialized in FCAW, SMAW, and GMAW processes for steel plates and profiles.

 Active welding tickets and/or Welding tickets obtained under any IACS classification society.
