Key responsibilities
WordPress development and maintenance
- Maintain and extend our custom theme and plugins and vanilla JavaScript.
- Build recent page layouts, blocks and landing pages that match the design system and stay accessible.
- Keep WordPress core, plugins and themes up to date: test on staging first, take backups, deploy to live and roll back if needed.
- Manage WooCommerce in catalogue mode for the equipment pages: products, categories, images and the quote request flow.
- Look after the enquiry forms, spam protection and the CRM connection, and fix form delivery problems with IT.
- Fix bugs and layout issues across browsers and phones, and support editors who publish blog posts and pages.
Technical SEO
- Run regular crawls and audits (Screaming Frog, Search Console, Bing Webmaster Tools) and fix what they find: broken links, redirects, duplicate titles, missing alt text, indexing and canonical issues.
- Manage Yoast SEO: titles, meta descriptions, sitemaps, schema (Organization, LocalBusiness, FAQ, Article) and robots rules.
- Maintain the redirect map so old URLs keep their rankings when pages move or are retired.
- Keep Core Web Vitals in the green: PageSpeed Insights mobile 90 or above on key pages, LCP under 2.5 s, CLS under 0.1.
On-page SEO, local SEO and content
- Research keywords for each service and location, and map them to pages so no two pages compete for the same search.
- Brief and optimise blog posts and service pages with the marketing team: headings, internal links, images, FAQs.
- Keep location pages and Google Business Profiles accurate and consistent for every state and New Zealand.
- Structure content so search engines and AI answer engines (Google AI Overviews, Bing Copilot, ChatGPT) can quote it accurately.
- Build quality backlinks through industry directories, associations, partners and PR; no paid link schemes.
Analytics and reporting
- Maintain Google Analytics 4, Google Tag Manager, Microsoft Clarity and conversion tracking for calls, forms and quote requests.
- Produce a monthly report: organic traffic, rankings, enquiries from organic search, site speed, issues fixed and next steps.
Hosting, performance and security
- Work with our hosting, Cloudflare and Sucuri set-up: caching (WP Rocket), DNS records, SSL, firewall rules and uptime monitoring.
- Keep the site secure: user roles, two-factor sign-in, plugin vetting, malware scans and verified backups.
- Keep private documents such as licence and certificate copies off the public site.
Required skills and experience
- 13 years building and maintaining WordPress sites professionally, with at least one live site you can show and explain.
- Solid PHP, HTML, CSS (Sass) and JavaScript; comfortable reading and editing a custom theme rather than only page builders.
- Working knowledge of the block editor, custom post types, taxonomies, menus, hooks and filters.
- Hands-on technical SEO: crawling, indexing, sitemaps, redirects, canonicals, structured data and Core Web Vitals.
- Experience with Yoast SEO (or Rank Math), Google Search Console, Google Analytics 4 and Google Tag Manager.
- Keyword research and on-page optimisation with a tool such as Semrush or Ahrefs.
- Basic hosting skills: cPanel or similar, FTP/SFTP, phpMyAdmin, DNS records, SSL and backups.
- Version control with Git, and the habit of testing on staging before changing a live site.
- Clear written English: you can explain a technical issue to a non-technical manager in a few sentences.
- A tertiary qualification in IT, computer science, digital marketing or similar, or equivalent experience.
- Full working rights in Australia.
Nice to have
- WooCommerce experience, including catalogue-only or quote-request stores.
- Building custom Gutenberg blocks (block.json, React) or Elementor widgets.
- Cloudflare and website firewall (Sucuri or Wordfence) configuration.
- Local SEO for multi-location businesses and Google Business Profile management.
- Accessibility testing with axe or WAVE, and performance testing with Lighthouse.
- Docker or Local for development environments; WP-CLI.
- Basic design skills in Figma or Photoshop for banners and blog images.
- Experience in a B2B services industry: security, facilities, cleaning, construction or similar.
- Google Analytics or Google Ads certification.
