Pune
Location: Pune, India (Sinhgad Road, Work From Office, 12:00 pm to 9:00 pm shift)
Position: Full time, Permanent, Senior Management
Reporting to: Partner, UK Services
Team led: 10–15 accountants, tax and payroll executives, through their own team leads
Experience: 15+ years in accounting, including 8+ years on UK accounts and tax
Clients: UK accountancy practices, owner-managed companies, sole traders, landlords and individuals
Peak season: 31 January Self Assessment deadline The Role
SDC is a Pune-based chartered accountancy firm that delivers accounting, tax and payroll work for clients in the United Kingdom. Our UK desk is growing, and we are looking for a highly experienced, commercially minded senior professional to lead it end to end.
You will be the person UK clients call when something matters. You will sign off the work, set the standard for quality, and build a team that can handle thousands of returns and year-end files without missing a deadline.
This is a hands-on, fee-generating leadership role, not simply a supervisory position. We want someone who can review a complex Self Assessment with foreign income in the morning, settle a client escalation at lunch, and coach a new team lead in the afternoon, while contributing directly to the profitability of the UK desk and developing a capable, accountable and increasingly independent team.
Why now: Making Tax Digital for Income Tax went live in April 2026, FRS 102 has changed for leases and revenue, and the non-dom rules have been replaced. UK clients need offshore partners who understand all of it. You will make sure SDC is that partner.
Key Responsibilities
1. Client & Portfolio Leadership
- Act as the senior point of contact for UK partner firms and direct clients.
- Own turnaround times, SLAs and the escalation route; identify and resolve complex technical issues and escalate appropriately.
- Run regular client reviews, act on feedback and spot scope for additional work with the UK business development team.
1. UK Accounts & Reporting
- Oversee year-end accounts for limited companies, LLPs, partnerships and sole traders under FRS 102 (including Section 1A) and FRS 105.
- Review bookkeeping, reconciliations, management accounts and MIS.
- Make sure Companies House filings are accurate and on time.
1. UK Tax Compliance
- Review and sign off Self Assessment (SA100 and supplementary pages), partnership (SA800) and corporation tax (CT600) returns.
- Handle residence, split-year treatment,
the foreign income and gains (FIG) regime, double tax relief and foreign tax credits.
- Advise clients on the reliefs and allowances open to them.
1. Payroll & VAT
- Oversee RTI payroll (FPS/EPS), P11Ds, pension auto-enrolment and payroll year-end.
- Review VAT returns filed under Making Tax Digital for VAT.
- Keep yearly rate and threshold updates current in our systems.
1. Fee Generation & Commercial Management
- Personally undertake chargeable assignments and generate fees alongside leading the team.
- Make sure the team delivers work efficiently and profitably.
- Prepare and raise invoices within agreed authority, monitor work in progress and ensure timely billing.
- Monitor budgets, fee recovery, productivity and assignment profitability.
- Identify additional chargeable work and opportunities to increase fee income.
1. Team Leadership & Development
- Lead, coach and review a team of 10–15, through their own team leads.
- Set KRAs, run quarterly performance reviews and yearly appraisals.
- Hire and train, and build the next layer of reviewers and team leads.
1. Process, Quality, Technology & Reporting
- Own SOPs, checklists and a multi-level review process.
- Keep client data secure and GDPR-compliant.
- Identify opportunities for automation, standardisation and stronger internal controls.
- Plan capacity for the January peak and report monthly MIS to the partners.
UK Changes You Will Lead Us Through Familiarity with all four is expected.
- 6 April 2025 – Non-dom rules replaced. The remittance basis has gone. New UK residents are taxed under a residence-based regime, with a four-year exemption for foreign income and gains (FIG) for those who qualify.
- November 2025 – Companies House identity checks. Directors and people with significant control must verify their identity, and agents filing for clients must be authorised (ACSP).
- 1 January 2026 – FRS 102 periodic review. For periods beginning on or after this date, most leases come on to the balance sheet and revenue follows a five-step model.
- 6 April 2026 – Making Tax Digital for Income Tax.
Sole traders and landlords with qualifying income over £50,000 now send quarterly digital updates. The threshold drops to £30,000 in April 2027 and £20,000 in April 2028.
