About the role
Youll be our first in-house engineer. You’ll build and run the apps behind our security, traffic management, cleaning and services operations, and connect our business systems. You’ll use up-to-date AI coding tools (Claude Code, Cursor, GitHub Copilot or similar) every day to deliver faster, and you’ll own the quality, security and reliability of what ships.
What you’ll do
- Design, build and maintain web and mobile apps for rostering, timesheets, shift check-in/out (GPS/geofencing), site/job management and service requests.
- Build alerting features: panic/duress alerts, lone-worker monitoring, incident reporting, escalation notifications (SMS, push, email). Integrate with alarm monitoring platforms or IoT devices where needed.
- Integrate our business systems: finance/accounting, HR, payroll, procurement and CRM. Use APIs, webhooks and automation platforms to remove double entry.
- Deploy and run applications both in the cloud (Azure/AWS) and on our in-house servers. Handle backups, monitoring, patching and uptime.
- Automate workflows across the business with tools such as Power Automate, n8n, Make or Zapier, or with custom scripts.
- Use AI tools responsibly: review, test and secure all AI-generated code; keep sensitive company and employee data out of public tools.
- Document systems, keep source code and credentials in company-owned accounts,
and advise management on buy-vs-build decisions.
Must have
- 5+ years of professional software development, including shipping and supporting production systems on your own.
- Strong in one modern stack, e.g. TypeScript/Node.js + React or C#/.NET, with SQL databases (PostgreSQL or SQL Server).
- Mobile development (React Native or Flutter), or a clear ability to deliver it.
- Proven experience integrating third-party systems via REST APIs, webhooks and OAuth.
- Cloud deployment (Azure or AWS), Docker, CI/CD (e.g. GitHub Actions), plus Linux and/or Windows Server administration.
- Daily, hands-on use of AI coding assistants, with examples of how you check and test their output.
- Security fundamentals: authentication, role-based access, encryption, handling of personal and payroll data.
- Able to work directly with operations staff and turn messy requirements into working software.
Nice to have
- Workforce management, rostering, field service or security-industry software experience.
- Knowledge of award interpretation and payroll rules (e.g.
Security
Services and Cleaning Services awards).
- Experience with Xero/MYOB, Employment Hero/KeyPay, Salesforce/HubSpot/Dynamics or similar.
- IoT/alarm integrations (MQTT, SIP/SMS gateways, monitoring-centre protocols).
- Networking basics (VPN, firewalls, Microsoft 365/Entra ID administration).
