Key Responsibilities

1. Database Assessment and Conversion

- Perform pre-migration assessments and complexity analysis of assigned databases.
- Convert Oracle DDL to PostgreSQL and validate automated conversion outputs.
- Refactor PL/SQL into PL/pgSQL, including packages, procedures, functions, and triggers.
- Define target schemas and agree on data type mappings.
- Identify and address potential data precision loss and truncation risks.
- Coordinate schema requirements with application teams.

1. Replication and Data Migration

- Prepare source databases for replication, including archive logging and supplemental logging.
- Configure, execute, and monitor full-load and Change Data Capture (CDC) migration jobs.
- Design synchronisation workflows to minimise cutover downtime.

1. Data Validation and Performance Tuning

- Perform schema comparisons and data type validation.
- Execute row count reconciliation and row-level hash comparisons.
- Conduct performance benchmarking against Oracle baselines.
- Analyse and resolve performance issues involving indexes, statistics, execution plans, and PL/pgSQL.
- Investigate and resolve migration defects.
- Ensure zero open Severity 1 and Severity 2 issues before sign-off.
- Own the conversion and engineering quality of assigned databases end to end.

1. Production Cutover and Release Management

- Support production cutovers, including source database quiescing, target promotion, and post-migration activities.
- Execute post-promotion scripts, refresh statistics, transfer object ownership, and remove migration artefacts.
- Participate in weekend production release activities on a rotational basis.
- Monitor target databases during release windows and resolve issues.

1. Technical Leadership and Documentation

- Mentor and support less experienced engineers.
- Establish and maintain technical documentation standards.
- Prepare runbooks, technical decision records,



and knowledge-transfer documents.
- Conduct knowledge-transfer sessions.
- Contribute improvements to shared conversion and validation tools.

1. Client and Stakeholder Collaboration

- Work closely with application teams, DBAs, cloud operations, and network teams.
- Manage infrastructure, network, and access-related requests through client ticketing systems.
- Plan, estimate, and prioritise assigned work.
- Identify blockers, manage dependencies, and escalate risks proactively.

Mandatory Technical Skills
- Oracle 19c: Advanced working knowledge.
- PostgreSQL 14+: Advanced working knowledge.
- PL/SQL and PL/pgSQL: Intermediate; refactoring and debugging.
- Oracle to PostgreSQL Migration: Expert; at least one production migration.
- Change Data Capture (CDC) / Logical Replication: Intermediate.
- Data Reconciliation and Validation: Advanced; row counts, checksums, and hashing.
- Query Performance Tuning: Advanced; execution plans, indexing, and statistics.
- Cloud Databases: AWS RDS and/or Google Cloud SQL.
- Scripting: Python and/or PowerShell/Shell scripting.
- Git: Configuration management, CI, and versioning.
- Automated Testing: Integration and end-to-end testing, including BDD-style testing.

Additional Technical Knowledge Candidates should have a working understanding of:
- Oracle to PostgreSQL data type mapping.
- NUMBER(p,s) precision and scale.
- DATE to TIMESTAMP conversion.
- VARCHAR2 byte-versus-character handling.
- Timezone handling.
- CLOB/BLOB conversion.
- Archive logging and supplemental logging.
- Log mining and logical replication.
- Data comparison across different database engines.
- Query execution plans and indexing strategies.

Good-to-Have Skills
- Google Cloud Database Migration Service.
- Striim, Oracle GoldenGate, or similar CDC replication tools.
- Google Cloud professional or associate-level certification.




- Google Cloud networking: VPC peering, Private Service Connect, private IP, and IAM.
- C#/.NET or Java.
- Liquibase and Java 17.
- MSSQL or MySQL migration experience.
- Oracle DBA experience, including RMAN, AWR, and log mining.
- Expertise in replication, performance tuning, LOB, and character set handling.
- ServiceNow, Jira, and Change Advisory Board processes.
- Terraform or other Infrastructure-as-Code tools.

Relevant Experience Required
- 6 to 10 years of experience in database engineering, database migration, or platform consultancy.
- Two or more completed heterogeneous database migrations, including at least one Oracle to PostgreSQL migration.
- Experience working on large-scale database migration programmes.
- Experience owning technical workstreams end to end.
- Experience working with multiple teams across organisational boundaries.
- Experience handling production cutovers under formal change control.
- Experience working directly with client teams in a consultancy or nearshore delivery environment.
- Experience mentoring and coaching engineers.
- Experience with planned out-of-hours and weekend production releases.
- A degree in Computer Science or a related discipline, or equivalent practical experience.
- Must be able to successfully complete background screening before receiving client system access.

- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Fluent in English.
- Ability to explain complex technical concepts to technical and non-technical stakeholders.
- Ability to work independently and manage assigned responsibilities.
- Must be comfortable working UK business hours.
- Willingness to participate in weekend production release rotations.
- Candidates must have a good professional workplace and be presentable during video interviews.

Assessment and Interview Guidelines
