PLANT HEAD – DUCTILE IRON FOUNDRY

Job Summary

We are looking for a Plant Head to run our ductile iron (SG iron) foundry end to end. You will own production, quality, cost, safety and people. This role needs someone who knows how a ductile iron foundry actually runs on the shop floor: melting, magnesium treatment, moulding (automatic and No Bake), pouring, fettling, testing and dispatch. You must be able to deliver high-volume, consistent, low-rejection castings.

Key Responsibilities

1. Production & Operations

- Take overall charge of foundry production, planning and execution, from order to dispatch
- Achieve daily, monthly and yearly production targets with on-time delivery
- Improve productivity, metal yield and moulding line utilisation
- Control cost, wastage, power consumption and downtime
- Coordinate with marketing, PPC, stores and maintenance for smooth material and order flow

2. Ductile Iron Process Control

- Control melting practice: charge mix (pig iron, steel scrap, returns), induction furnace operation, base iron chemistry and tapping/pouring temperatures
- Oversee magnesium treatment and inoculation (sandwich / tundish / cored wire or equivalent) to achieve consistent nodularity and nodule count
- Prevent and solve typical SG iron defects: shrinkage, dross and slag, carbides/chill, graphite degeneration, fading and sand inclusions




- Ensure achievement of required grades and properties (ferritic, pearlitic, ferritic-pearlitic) as per customer and standard requirements
- Monitor spectro, thermal analysis, microstructure and mechanical testing, and act on the results
- Oversee heat treatment where required

3. Moulding & Sand Systems

- Manage automatic moulding lines (DISA / similar) and green sand control
- Strong hands-on command of No Bake (resin-bonded) sand systems and No Bake castings: mixer operation, binder and catalyst control, sand reclamation, curing and strip time, core and mould quality
- Optimise gating and risering for sound castings, using simulation where available

4. Product Development

- Lead new product development from enquiry and feasibility to pattern, trial, sample approval and regular production
- Deep knowledge of pattern and tooling design, methoding and process validation (PPAP-type approvals)
- Reduce development time and trial iterations

5. Quality & Compliance

- Ensure compliance with ISO and other quality standards and customer specifications
- Lead root cause analysis for defects and process failures, and close corrective and preventive actions (CAPA)




- Drive customer rejection reduction and manage customer audits
- Oversee NDT and dimensional inspection as required

6. Continuous Improvement

- Implement KAIZEN, CAPA, TPM and 5S across the plant (knowledge of these is a MUST)
- Implement proper PAPER WORK and stronger PROCESS CONTROL SYSTEMS: daily reports, process sheets, logbooks and traceability

7. Manpower & Leadership

- Lead all HODs, engineers, supervisors and the workforce
- Train and develop the skills of shop floor teams
- Conduct performance reviews and maintain discipline control

8. Safety, Environment & Statutory

- Maintain a secure plant with strict PPE, furnace and molten metal safety
- Ensure compliance with pollution control, factory and other statutory norms

Candidate Profile
- B.Tech / Diploma in Mechanical / Metallurgy from NIFFT or similar institutes
- Minimum 10+ years of experience in a Ductile Iron / Cast Iron / Steel foundry, with strong, proven ductile iron foundry experience
- Working knowledge of No Bake sand systems and No Bake castings
- Strong exposure to DISA / automatic moulding lines (preferred)
- Experience in high-volume production
- Past experience in senior positions in foundries across India
- Deep knowledge of product development
- Working knowledge of KAIZEN, CAPA, TPM, 5S
- Strong leadership and execution mindset.

Pay: ₹500,000.00 - ₹1,500,000.00 per year
