We are looking for a vigilant and safety-oriented Operator for our Steel Melting Shop (SMS-II) facility in Raigarh. The role is responsible for the protected and efficient tilting of torpedo cars and hot metal transfer into ladles.

Role & responsibilities

- Incoming Alignment: Coordinate with the rail locomotive crew to lock and position torpedo cars securely under the pouring pit chute.

- Pre-Operation Safety Checks: Thoroughly inspect torpedo car shells, pouring spouts, and emergency mechanical brakes prior to tilting

- Drive Engagement & Disconnection: Connect, test, and safely disconnect electric or hydraulic power cables to the torpedo rotational drive unit.

- Controlled Hot Metal Tilting: Operate the control pulpit to pour molten iron at a smooth, splash-free, and controlled rate.

- Weight & Tonnage Monitoring: Monitor digital load-cell scales in real time to dispense exact tonnage into the receiving ladle.

- Slag Management: Manage the final stages of the pour to minimize blast furnace slag carryover into the receiving ladle.

- Return Leveling: Return the empty torpedo car to a horizontal level position to avoid spillages during transit back to the Blast Furnace.

- Data Logging: Accurately record heat numbers, car identities, cycle times,



and poured weights in shift log sheets.

- Emergency Response: Trigger immediate shutdown and backup emergency rotation protocols in case of liquid metal breakouts or mechanical jams.

Preferred candidate profile

- Education: ITI (Fitter / Electrician / Mechanical / relevant trade) / 12th Pass / B.Sc.

- Experience: 2 to 8 year of hands-on or vocational experience in a Steel Plant / SMS complex (Freshers with relevant ITI/vocational background are welcome).

- Technical Knowledge: Understanding of SMS parameters, Electric Arc Furnace (EAF) operations, and shop-floor safety protocols.

- Additional Skills: Basic computer literacy (MS Office), familiarity with ISO/TPM practices, and effective team coordination skills.
