- Define cell grading and matching criteria, including capacity, internal resistance (IR), open-circuit voltage (OCV), and self-discharge, for battery pack suppliers.
- Track emerging cell technologies, including sodium-ion (Na-ion) and LMFP, along with second-life battery applications.

Cell Testing, Characterisation & Validation
- Conduct cell testing and characterisation, including capacity testing, HPPC, EIS, cycle life, calendar life, and abuse testing.
- Perform cell teardown, investigate failures, and identify underlying degradation mechanisms.
- Analyse cell performance under different operating conditions to assess reliability, safety, and long-term durability.
- Evaluate cell qualification results and support supplier selection based on technical performance and application requirements.
- Develop test methodologies and data-driven approaches to improve cell evaluation and validation processes.

Battery Modelling & BMS Integration
- Provide cell parameters and datasets to the BMS team, including OCV-SOC curves, ECM parameters, derating tables, and ageing data.

- Support the development and validation of State of Charge (SOC) and State of Health (SOH) estimation algorithms.
- Perform Equivalent Circuit Model (ECM) modelling and battery life estimation.
- Estimate battery life under swappable battery usage patterns to support warranty planning and battery replacement decisions.
- Collaborate with BMS and firmware teams to improve battery performance, diagnostics, and operational reliability.

Field Data Analysis & Failure Investigation
- Analyse field performance data to identify capacity fade, cell imbalance, swelling, and battery cut-off issues.
- Investigate cell-related failures and recommend corrective and preventive actions.
- Correlate field performance with laboratory test results to identify degradation trends and improve battery reliability.
- Support root cause analysis and technical resolution of cell-related issues across deployed battery systems.

Supplier Management & Technology Development
- Act as the technical point of contact for cell suppliers on performance, quality, testing, and reliability issues.
- Evaluate cells from Chinese and other international commercial suppliers.
- Support supplier audits, technical assessments, cell qualification, and ongoing performance monitoring.
- Track advancements in battery chemistry, cell design, degradation mechanisms, and second-life applications.
- Contribute to technology development through research, experimentation, patents, and scientific publications.

Technical Documentation & Process Improvement

- Develop and maintain cell specifications, qualification reports, test procedures, and technical documentation.
- Establish standardised cell testing, characterisation, and acceptance criteria.
- Ensure compliance with applicable battery safety and testing standards.
- Drive continuous improvement in cell evaluation, life prediction, supplier quality, and battery performance.

Must-Have Requirements
- 3–8 years of industry experience in Li-ion cell testing, evaluation, qualification, or characterisation.
- Strong knowledge of battery chemistries, including LFP, NMC, and LMFP.
- Hands-on experience with cell cyclers such as Arbin, Maccor, Neware, or BioLogic, along with test data analysis.
- Positive understanding of cell degradation mechanisms, failure modes, and battery ageing.
- Experience in Equivalent Circuit Model (ECM) modelling and battery life estimation.
- Knowledge of cell grading and matching parameters, including capacity, IR, OCV, and self-discharge.
- Experience evaluating cells from Chinese and other commercial suppliers.
