1. Position Overview:

We are looking for a hands-on 3D Plant Engineering Lead to establish and manage a small 3D engineering team for Ash Handling Plants (AHP), Coal Handling Plants (CHP) and Balance of Plant (BOP) systems for thermal power and industrial projects.

The company has an existing Bentley OpenPlant software platform, including OpenPlant modelling and ProSteel licences.

The selected candidate will initially lead a team of 45 engineers and designers, develop 3D engineering capabilities, establish modelling standards and ensure the delivery of coordinated 3D models and engineering drawings.

This is a hands-on technical leadership position, not merely a managerial or coordination role.

2. Role & responsibilities

A. Establish the 3D Engineering Department:

- Set up and lead the companys 3D plant engineering capability.
- Assess existing Bentley OpenPlant and ProSteel software and recommend optimum utilisation.
- Establish engineering workflows, modelling standards, equipment libraries and drawing procedures.
- Train and guide a small team of 3D modellers and detailers.
- Develop a scalable engineering organisation as project requirements increase.

B. 3D Plant Design and Engineering:

- Independently develop and supervise 3D plant layouts.
- Undertake equipment positioning, piping routing, structural interfaces and maintenance access planning.
- Coordinate mechanical, piping, civil, structural and electrical engineering inputs.
- Ensure accuracy of equipment interfaces, elevations, clearances and construction requirements.
- Develop integrated 3D models for ash handling, coal handling and BOP systems.

C. Engineering Deliverables:

- 3D plant and equipment models.
- General arrangement drawings.
- Equipment layout drawings.
- Piping layouts and isometric drawings.
- Pipe support and structural interface details.
- Material take-offs and bills of materials.
- Clash detection and resolution reports.
- Construction and fabrication interfaces.

D.

Project Execution:

- Plan and allocate modelling work among team members.
- Establish and monitor drawing and model delivery schedules.
- Coordinate with project managers, engineering disciplines, manufacturing and site teams.
- Conduct model reviews and ensure compliance with project specifications.
- Resolve engineering interface issues during design, fabrication and erection.

E. Standardisation and Automation:

- Develop reusable 3D libraries of standard equipment and components.
- Establish standard templates for ash handling and coal handling projects.
- Improve engineering productivity through standardisation and automation.
- Coordinate with the company's design automation team where appropriate.

3. Essential Technical Skills:

- Strong experience in 3D plant design and equipment layout engineering.
- Practical experience with Bentley OpenPlant Modeler / OpenPlant Design preferred.
- Candidates with robust experience in AVEVA E3D, PDMS or Smart 3D (SP3D) may also be considered, provided they are willing to transition to Bentley.
- Good understanding of piping layouts, equipment interfaces, structural steelwork and multidisciplinary coordination.
- Ability to generate and check engineering drawings from 3D models.
- Knowledge of clash detection, model review and material take-off procedures.
- Familiarity with AutoCAD and Bentley ProSteel / ProStructures is desirable.
- Understanding of piping specifications, equipment nozzles, supports and plant design practices.

4. Preferred Industry Background:

Candidates should preferably have worked in one or more of the following sectors:

- Thermal power plants and EPC projects.
- Ash handling systems.
- Coal handling and bulk material handling plants.
- Cement and steel plants.
- Industrial process plants.
- Power plant balance-of-plant engineering.

Experience in equipment-intensive industrial projects with piping and structural steelwork is particularly desirable.

5. Candidate Profile

We are looking for someone who:

- Has personally executed 3D engineering and modelling work.
- Can independently develop a plant layout from engineering inputs.
- Has successfully delivered detailed engineering drawings from 3D models.
- Can lead a small team without requiring a large support organisation.
- Understands practical fabrication, installation and maintenance requirements.
- Is capable of establishing standards, training engineers and improving productivity.
- Has strong coordination skills and a delivery-oriented approach.

6. Initial Objectives First 90 Days:

The selected candidate will be expected to:

1. Review the existing Bentley software environment and recommend any essential additions.
2. Establish 3D modelling standards and project workflows.
3. Assist in recruiting and training the initial modelling team.
4. Develop a pilot 3D model for a selected ash handling project.
5. Generate coordinated equipment layouts, piping drawings, and initial material take-offs.
6. Establish a standard equipment/component library.
7. Prepare a plan for extending 3D engineering to coal handling and BOP projects.

7. Reporting and Team: Reporting to: Head of Engineering / Management

Initial team: 4 to 5 engineers and designers, including the 3D Engineering Lead.

Long-term objective: Develop a competent in-house 3D engineering department capable of delivering integrated models and detailed engineering deliverables for major EPC projects.
