How You'll Help Us Keep Climbing (Overview & Key Responsibilities)
Role Summary The leader will coach and grow AI engineers, shape technical strategy, and directly guide the design and delivery of agentic solutions that interact with enterprise systems and operate within clear governance, safety and security boundaries. The role is accountable for rapid experimentation, evaluation, and rapid prototyping, while also ensuring that successful patterns can be responsibly reused and scaled across enterprise.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead, mentor and develop a team of AI/ML engineers; set technical direction, create development plans, manage capacity, provide coaching and build an inclusive, high-performing engineering culture
- Partner cross-divisionally with business, product, architecture, data, cybersecurity, privacy, legal, risk and operations stakeholders to identify, prioritize and define business problems suitable for AI, GenAI and Agentic AI solutions
- Architect and build agentic experiences using enterprise-ready patterns such as single-agent patterns, multi-agent orchestration, tool/function calling, RAG, memory, policy-aware context management, human-in-the-loop escalation and reusable agent skills/workflows
- Evaluate and apply modern AI engineering tools and Agentic AI IDEs/coding assistants to accelerate design, prototyping, testing and delivery while maintaining quality, security and compliance expectations
- Drive hands-on prototypes, pilots and proofs of concepts that validate business value, user experience, technical feasibility, cost profile, safety posture and operational readiness
- Establish reusable AI assets, including prompts, evaluation datasets, guardrail patterns, MCP-enabled tool integrations, RAG pipelines, observability dashboards, reference architectures and implementation playbooks
- Define and influence technical standards for agent development
- Embed responsible AI principles, data privacy, model risk awareness, explainability, human oversight, secure-by-design practices and enterprise governance controls into every stage of experimentation and delivery
- Communicate findings clearly to senior leaders and enterprise partners through demos, technical readouts, decision memos, scorecards and adoption recommendations that help inform broader scale decisions
- Stay current on emerging GenAI, Agentic AI, ML platforms, model capabilities, orchestration frameworks, governance practices and AI safety/security threats; translate market learning into pragmatic recommendations
- Strong foundation in Machine Learning concepts and techniques, including model development, training, evaluation and optimization, with practical experience in areas such as classification, regression, NLP, computer vision, forecasting or recommendation systems
What You Need To Succeed (Minimum Qualifications)
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Data Science, Mathematics or a related technical discipline, or equivalent practical experience.
- 15+ years of professional experience across AI, ML, software engineering, data engineering or enterprise technology delivery, with recent hands-on work in Generative AI and/or Agentic AI solutions.
- Demonstrated people leadership experience: hiring, mentoring, coaching, performance feedback, recognition,
resource planning and building a collaborative engineering culture.
- Strong architecture and implementation experience with Python and modern software engineering practices, including API design, CI/CD, DevSecOps, testing, observability and production readiness.
- Hands-on experience with LLM integration, prompt engineering, RAG, embeddings/vector stores, tool/function calling, agent workflows and one or more AI/ML frameworks or SDKs.
- Foundational understanding of ML concepts and at least one applied area such as NLP, computer vision, recommendation systems, optimization, reinforcement learning, forecasting or audio/speech processing.
- Experience designing agentic systems that integrate with enterprise APIs, data platforms and business workflows while managing context, state, permissions and errors safely.
- Working knowledge of enterprise AI governance, responsible AI, model evaluation, privacy, security, compliance, auditability and human-in-the-loop patterns.
- Ability to present complex AI concepts, tradeoffs, risks and recommendations to technical audiences, product teams and senior business stakeholders.
Behavioural Competencies
- Ability to champion a collaborative setting by empowering team members, demonstrating resilience, being inclusive and building a culture of trust.
- Ability to build and sustain robust networks across internal and external stakeholders.
- Being a coach/mentor/advisor to drive continuous team development and growth.
- Use systemic thinking to drive business results and strategic decisions that enhance organizational outcomes.
- Ability to advocate for customer-focused innovations, model empathy in decision-making, inspiring others to approach problems from the customer’s perspective and decisions that reflect an uncompromising commitment to customer safety, fostering trust and loyalty.
What Will Give You a Competitive Edge (Preferred Qualifications)
- Experience leading AI innovation or applied research teams that rapidly prototype, evaluate and share findings across an enterprise.
- Experience with cloud-based GenAI/Agentic AI platforms and frameworks such as Azure AI Foundry, AWS Bedrock/AgentCore/Strands, OpenAI Agents SDK, LangGraph, Semantic Kernel, CrewAI, AutoGen, Copilot Studio, Decagon, Netomi, Agentforce or comparable platforms.
- Experience building MCP servers, agent tools, agent registries, reusable RAG patterns, model gateways, evaluation harnesses or enterprise AI platform capabilities.
