About the role

We refurbish laptops and barebone systems and need a skilled chip-level technician for our refurbishment centre. You will diagnose and repair motherboard faults at component level so units can be tested, graded and sold.

Responsibilities

- Remove and replace BGA/SMD chips (CPU, GPU, EC, BIOS, PCH, power ICs) using a hot air station, BGA rework station and soldering iron
- Remove and re-solder ports and connectors (USB, HDMI, DC jack, charging port, RAM slot, display connector and similar)
- Diagnose dead, short-circuit, no-power, no-display and charging faults using a multimeter and schematics
- Reflow, reball and clean boards; repair damaged tracks and pads
- Test repaired boards and record the fault found and the repair done
- Keep your workstation and tools in good condition, and handle boards with ESD safety

Requirements




- Hands-on experience in laptop motherboard chip-level repair (the number of years can be versatile for a skilled candidate)
- Proven skill in chip removal and soldering, and in port removal and soldering
- Ability to read basic schematics and boardviews
- Working knowledge of a multimeter, DC power supply, hot air gun and soldering station
- Steady hands, patience and attention to detail
- Honest and punctual, and able to meet repair targets

Good to have
- Experience with BGA reballing
- Knowledge of BIOS flashing and programmer tools
- Experience with Lenovo, HP and Dell business laptops
