Summary The Backend & Integration Engineer will design and develop portable backend services for the Situational Awareness platform. The role will implement APIs, alert and workflow services, and governed integrations with the central Data Lake, historians, enterprise systems, and approved external platforms across on-premises and cloud deployment profiles.

Responsibilities

- Design and implement modular backend services, REST APIs, and event-driven interfaces.

- Develop governed adapters for the central Data Lake, historians, enterprise systems, and approved downstream platforms.

- Implement alert lifecycle, workflow, notification, audit, and configuration services.

- Integrate backend services with event-streaming and reliable messaging components using idempotent processing.

- Apply secure coding, clean architecture, API versioning, configuration abstraction, and database transaction practices.

- Develop automated unit and integration tests and participate in code reviews and technical documentation.

- Instrument services for logs, metrics, and traces and support performance and failure-recovery testing.

- Support Docker-based packaging and consistent deployment across On-Prem and Cloud levels.

Key Skills

- Education: Bachelors or masters degree in computer science, Information Technology, Electronics,



or a related discipline.

- Experience: 58 years in backend or integration engineering for enterprise or industrial applications.

- Programming: Strong Java and Spring Boot experience, including REST APIs, asynchronous processing, and testing frameworks.

- Integration: Experience with Kafka-compatible event streaming, API integration, schema/version management, and resilient error handling.

- Data: Strong SQL and PostgreSQL experience, including transactional data modelling and performance optimisation.

- Platform: Practical experience with Docker, Linux, CI/CD pipelines, OAuth 2.0/OpenID Connect, and observability.

- Industrial Domain: Experience integrating Data Lakes, historians, asset systems, or operational platforms.

- Valuable understanding of cybersecurity standards, frameworks, and security best practices, including OWASP Top 10, CIS Benchmarks, NIST Cybersecurity Framework, and ISO/IEC 27001.

- Knowledge of Secure SDLC, application security, vulnerability management, and security risk assessment.

- Understanding of Zero Trust principles, security controls, and secure architecture practices.

- Ability to apply cybersecurity best practices across applications, infrastructure, and development environments
