Backup & Recovery Specialist

We are seeking an experienced Backup & Recovery Specialist to support enterprise-scale data protection services across cloud and on-premises environments. This role is responsible for administering, optimizing, and securing backup and recovery platforms including Azure Native Backup, IBM Spectrum Protect, IBM Spectrum Protect Plus, and IBM Defender powered by Cohesity. The ideal candidate will bring strong operational discipline, troubleshooting expertise, automation skills, and a service reliability mindset to ensure backup integrity, recoverability, compliance, and business continuity.

Role Responsibilities

- Backup Platform Administration: Install, configure, administer, and maintain enterprise backup and recovery platforms, including Azure Native Backup, IBM Spectrum Protect, IBM Spectrum Protect Plus, and IBM Defender/Cohesity.
- Operational Monitoring: Perform daily monitoring, reporting, and troubleshooting across the backup estate to maintain agreed service levels and improve backup success rates.
- Policy and Schedule Management: Develop, implement, and manage backup, archive, retention, replication, and recovery policies aligned with business and compliance requirements.
- Recovery and Disaster Readiness: Support restoration requests, conduct periodic recovery validation, and participate in disaster recovery planning and testing to confirm data recoverability and integrity.
- Storage and Performance Optimization: Manage storage pools, volumes, devices, deduplication, compression, encryption, replication, and capacity utilization to optimize cost, performance, and reliability.
- Incident and Problem Management: Troubleshoot backup and recovery failures,



perform root cause analysis, resolve technical issues, and drive corrective actions to prevent recurrence.
- Security and Compliance: Implement security best practices including encryption, access controls, authentication, certificate management, and audit-ready documentation.
- Integration and Support: Integrate backup platforms with virtualization, operating systems, databases, storage, and application environments across Windows and Linux systems.
- Documentation and Reporting: Maintain operational procedures, technical documentation, configuration records, and executive-ready metrics covering backup success, recovery readiness, storage consumption, and compliance status.
- Continuous Improvement: Identify automation opportunities, improve operational efficiency, and contribute to service reliability, standardization, and modernization initiatives.
- Automation: Apply scripting or workflow automation to improve reliability, reporting, and operational efficiency.

Required Qualifications and Experience

- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering, or equivalent professional experience.
- Hands-on experience administering enterprise backup and recovery platforms such as Azure Native Backup, IBM Spectrum Protect, IBM Spectrum Protect Plus, Cohesity,



or equivalent technologies.
- Strong understanding of backup, restore, archive, retention, replication, deduplication, encryption, and storage management concepts.
- Experience supporting backup and recovery services across Windows, Linux, virtualized, database, and application environments.
- Working knowledge of disaster recovery principles, recovery testing, RPO/RTO alignment, and business continuity practices.
- Strong troubleshooting, root cause analysis, problem-solving, and analytical skills.
- Must-have automation skills in any domain, including scripting, workflow automation, reporting, or process optimization.
- Ability to work independently, collaborate across infrastructure and application teams, and support incident response in a time-sensitive setting.
- Strong communication, documentation, and reporting skills with the ability to present technical information clearly to stakeholders.

Preferred Skills
- Experience with Cohesity cluster administration, data protection policies, and recovery operations.
- Advanced automation or scripting experience for backup operations, remediation, or service optimization.
- Experience supporting enterprise-scale infrastructure in regulated or compliance-driven environments.
- Knowledge of virtualization platforms, database backup methods, mail systems, SSL certificates, and security controls.
- Relevant certifications are preferred, including IBM Certified Deployment Qualified – Spectrum Protect V8.1.12 or higher, Cohesity Data Protection Associate/Data Security Professional, Microsoft AZ-900, AZ-104, or AI-900.
