Process Engineer

Purpose of the Position (Job Summary)

This role will lead the development of technical rules and engineering standards that guide process design, detailed engineering and project execution across our chemical operations. The incumbent will make sure that new projects and plant modifications are designed consistently, safely and to recognised national and international codes.

Key Individual Accountabilities

Technical Rule Development & Standardisation:

- Develop and maintain technical rules, design specifications and standard operating procedures for process design, equipment selection and system design.
- Establish standardised guidelines for: Piping, instrumentation and electrical systems Equipment sizing and selection Process control philosophy Safety systems and interlocks
- Align internal technical rules with national and international codes and standards (IS, ASME, API, IEC and others).
- Periodically review and update standards based on lessons learnt, incidents, technology upgrades and changes in codes.

Process Engineering Support:

- Provide process engineering input for new projects, debottlenecking and plant modifications, including PFDs, P&IDs;, heat and material balances, and equipment datasheets.
- Review basic and detailed engineering packages from licensors and EPC consultants to confirm they comply with the company’s technical rules.
- Support process simulation, line sizing, relief system design and hydraulic calculations.

Project Execution & Cross-Functional Coordination:

- Work closely with the Projects, Operations, Maintenance, Instrumentation, Electrical and EHS teams so that standards are applied from design through commissioning.
- Take part in design reviews, HAZOP, SIL and other safety studies, and track recommendations through to closure.
- Act as the technical point of reference for design queries and deviations, and maintain a formal deviation approval process.

Compliance & Continuous Improvement:

- Embed process safety management (PSM) principles into design standards.
- Support Management of Change (MOC) reviews from a process design standpoint.
- Identify opportunities to improve energy efficiency, yield and reliability, and turn them into design guidelines.

Knowledge Management & Capability Building:

- Build and maintain a central repository of technical standards, design basis documents and engineering best practices.
- Train engineers across sites on the technical rules and their application.

Technical & Behavioral Skills & Knowledge

- Education: B.E./B. Tech in Chemical Engineering. An M. Tech is preferred.
- Experience: 12–18 years in process engineering within the chemical, petrochemical or process industry. Exposure to chlor-alkali or allied chemicals is an advantage.
- Technical skills: Strong command of process design, equipment sizing and process control philosophy. Working knowledge of IS, ASME, API and IEC codes. Hands-on experience with process simulation tools (Aspen HYSYS / Aspen Plus or equivalent) and engineering analysis tools. Familiarity with HAZOP, SIL, PSM and MOC.
- Behavioural competencies: Structured and detail-oriented, with the ability to turn complex engineering knowledge into clear, usable standards. Strong cross-functional coordination and influencing skills. An energetic and dynamic skilled with ownership and a drive for continuous improvement.
