Vice President (VP) Electrical & Automation
Company: Bharat Green Recycling & Renewables Ltd.Plant Location: Paonta Sahib, Himachal PradeshCorporate Office: New DelhiIndustry: Iron & Steel / Heavy ManufacturingEmployment Type: Full-Time, PermanentFunctional Area: Engineering / Electrical & Automation
Company Profile
Bharat Green Recycling & Renewables Limited operates an integrated stainless steel manufacturing complex at Paonta Sahib, Himachal Pradesh, producing high-grade stainless steel flats, coils, and pipes. The plant encompasses high-power steel melting and refining installations (Electric Arc Furnace, Induction Furnaces, AOD Converter, and Vacuum Degassing), advanced hot and cold rolling mills, tube/pipe manufacturing lines, and heavy-duty finishing facilities, supported by a dedicated 220 kV extra-high-voltage power infrastructure and corporate headquarters in New Delhi.
Role Overview
We are seeking a visionary, hands-on, and technically authoritative Vice President (VP) Electrical & Automation to take full strategic and operational leadership of the plant's electrical distribution infrastructure, high-voltage substations, steel melting shop (SMS) electrics, industrial automation systems, and energy optimization programs.
The central mandate of this executive role is to institutionalize a 100% system-driven maintenance architectureeliminating reliance on tribal knowledge or individual memory through comprehensive as-built wiring mapping, single-line diagrams (SLDs), equipment history cards, standardized work instructions (SWIs), and condition-based predictive maintenance across the entire plant complex.
Key Responsibilities
1. 220 kV Substation, MRSS & Power Infrastructure
- 24/7 EHV Substation Operations: Oversee round-the-clock protected, reliable, and uninterrupted operations of the 220 kV Main Power Receiving Substation (MRSS) / Switchyard, including power transformers, SF6 switchgear, busbars, CTs/PTs, and numerical protection relays.
- Power Quality & Harmonic Mitigation: Manage high-power electrical load fluctuations, power factor correction, harmonics suppression, and reactive power compensation systems (SVC / STATCOM / Capacitor banks) essential for heavy metallurgical arc and melting loads.
- Energy Tariff & Grid Demand Management: Direct open-access power drawl, maximum demand (MD) monitoring, and load scheduling protocols to prevent grid overdraw penalties and achieve optimal commercial energy tariffs.
2. Steel Melting Shop (SMS) & Heavy Metallurgy Electricals
- Primary Furnace Systems: Direct electrical engineering reliability, rapid diagnostics, and maintenance across high-capacity melting and refining units:
- Electric Arc Furnace (EAF): Electrode regulation systems, hydraulic/servo controls, secondary circuit bus tubes, water-cooled flexible cables, and furnace transformer tap changers (OLTC/OCTC).
- Induction Furnaces (IF): Medium-frequency solid-state power supplies, thyristor/IGBT inverters, converter bridges, DC chokes, coil insulation health monitoring, and earth leakage detection circuits.
- AOD Converter & VD Plant: Drive tilt mechanisms, automated oxygen/inert gas mixing manifolds, vacuum ejector/pump electrical systems, and interlocked safety circuits.
- Uptime & Efficiency: Minimize tap-to-tap electrical delays and power-off duration across all furnaces through structured condition-based monitoring and aggressive turnaround times.
3. Institutionalizing System-Driven Maintenance (Zero Man-Dependency)
- Plant-Wide Wiring & As-Built Mapping: Lead end-to-end documentation and rigorous change-management of all electrical Single Line Diagrams (SLDs), cable schedules, control schematics, and standardized alphanumeric wire ferrule numbering across the complex.
- Equipment History Cards: Deploy and enforce standardized physical and digital History Cards for every transformer, HT/LT circuit breaker, furnace inverter panel, drive cubicle, and motor (>15 kW), capturing baseline values, repair logs, and insulation trends.
- Preventive & Predictive Maintenance (PM/PdM): Institutionalize time-tiered PM checklists and predictive testing regimes (Thermography hotspot audits, Transformer Oil DGA/BDV testing, Tan-Delta, motor meggering/PI, contact resistance testing, and relay secondary injection).
- Visual Management & Work Instructions (SWI): Implement laminated SLD display boards, emergency shock response charts, and step-by-step operating/troubleshooting work instruction boards at every substation, control desk, and MCC.
4. Industrial Automation, Drives & Downstream Plant Electrics
- PLC & SCADA Governance: Oversee design, maintenance,
and software version control of plant-wide PLC/SCADA systems (Siemens S7/TIA Portal, Rockwell/Allen-Bradley), HMIs, distributed I/O, and industrial communication protocols (Profinet, Profibus, Modbus).
- Mill Drives & Synchronization: Maintain high-power Variable Frequency Drives (VFDs) and synchronized multi-drive systems across hot/cold rolling mills, tube/pipe forming mills, and slitting lines.
- Material Handling & Cranes: Ensure absolute reliability and safety compliance of heavy-duty EOT cranes (charging, ladle, handling) including thruster brakes, master controllers, and wireless radio remotes.
5. Statutory Liaison, Electrical Safety & Energy Governance
- Statutory Regulatory Liaison: Serve as the principal management authority for liaison with the Himachal Pradesh State Electricity Board (HPSEB / HPPTCL), Chief Electrical Inspector to Government (CEIG), and Central Electricity Authority (CEA).
- Safety Protocols & LOTO: Enforce strict Lockout/Tagout (LOTO) procedures, arc-flash PPE standards, Permit-to-Work (PTW) frameworks, and earthing grid resistance audits across all plant sections.
- Specific Power Consumption: Direct technical initiatives to systematically reduce Specific Power Consumption (kWh per metric ton of melted and rolled steel).
Candidate Profile & Qualifications
- Education: B.E. / B.Tech in Electrical Engineering or Electrical & Electronics Engineering from a recognized university. Master's degree (M.Tech) in Power Systems or Industrial Drives is an added advantage.
- Statutory Certification: Valid Electrical Supervisor Competency Certificate / Grade-A License (EHV / Mines / Heavy Industrial) issued by the CEIG / State Licensing Board is strongly preferred.
- Experience: 2028 years of progressive hands-on experience in heavy industrial electrical and power system operations, with at least 58 years heading the electrical department at a VP / GM / Chief Electrical Engineer level.
- Industry Background: Direct leadership experience in Steel Manufacturing, Stainless Steel Plants, Steel Melting Shops (SMS), Rolling Mills, or Seamless/Welded Pipe Mills.
- Technical Mastery: Proven track record managing 220 kV (or minimum 132 kV) outdoor substations and heavy metallurgical furnace loads (Electric Arc Furnaces, Induction Furnaces, AOD, VD).
- System Transformation: Demonstrated experience transforming electrical maintenance from personnel-dependent operations into documented, institutionalized systems.
