Job descriptionThe Plant Senior Manager is responsible for the overall operational efficiency, safety, quality, and profitability of the hot-dip galvanising plant in accordance with all regulatory and quality standards (e.g., ASTM specifications).

Key Responsibilities1. Operations & Production Management

- Supervise the entire galvanising process—from material receiving, surface preparation (cleaning/pickling), fluxing, dipping in the zinc kettle, to post-galvanising finish and inspection.

- Plan, coordinate, and optimise daily production schedules to meet target volumes, deadlines, and customer delivery requirements.

- Implement and enforce Lean Manufacturing or other process improvement methodologies to enhance operational efficiency, reduce waste, and minimise costs.

- Monitor key performance indicators (KPIs) such as production output, zinc consumption, yield, and turnaround time.

- Manage and coordinate maintenance and repair of all critical plant equipment, including furnaces, galvanising kettles, cranes, hoists, and material handling systems.

2. Quality and Technical Oversight

- Ensure all finished products adhere to stringent quality standards, such as ASTM specifications for coating thickness, adherence, and appearance.

- Oversee all chemical processes, including monitoring and maintaining the parameters (concentration, temperature, etc.) of acid baths, flux solutions, and the molten zinc kettle.

- Conduct and document regular quality checks and inspections of incoming materials and outgoing finished goods.

- Troubleshoot and resolve technical challenges related to the galvanising process, surface defects, or equipment failure.

3. Safety, Health, and Environmental (SHE) Compliance

- Implement, enforce, and maintain the facility's safety programs and protocols to ensure a secure working environment.

- Ensure strict compliance with all local, state, and federal safety and environmental regulations related to hazardous materials and industrial operations.





- Manage the operation of the Effluent Treatment Plant (ETP) and oversee the proper handling, storage, and disposal of hazardous waste (e.g., spent acid, flux skimming).

- Lead safety audits, risk assessments, and incident investigations.

4. Team Leadership & Management

- Lead, train, coach, and mentor a diverse team of supervisors, galvanisers, maintenance, and quality control personnel across multiple shifts.

- Manage labour relations, handle conflict resolution, and coordinate manpower allocation to meet production needs.

- Foster a culture of continuous improvement, safety consciousness, and accountability within the plant.

- Conduct performance reviews and manage staffing needs (hiring, scheduling, and retention).

5. Administration & Financial

- Manage the operational budget, control costs, and investigate cost-reduction measures without compromising quality or safety.

- Oversee the procurement and inventory management of raw materials (zinc, chemicals, fuel) and consumables.

- Prepare and present accurate production, quality, maintenance, and safety reports to senior management.

Required Qualifications & Experience

- Education: Bachelor’s degree in Engineering (Chemical, Mechanical, or Industrial preferred), Operations Management, or a related field.

- Experience: Minimum of 5-10 years of experience in plant operations, with significant experience specifically in the Hot-Dip Galvanising or related metal finishing industry.

- Technical Knowledge: Extensive knowledge of galvanising chemistry, process parameters, equipment operation and maintenance (kettles, furnaces, cranes), quality control techniques, and surface preparation.

- Skills: Proven leadership and team management skills, excellent communication, strong problem-solving and decision-making abilities, and proficiency in production management software.

- Regulatory Familiarity: Deep understanding of industry standards (e.g., ASTM A123) and environmental/safety compliance (OSHA/local regulations).
