General
- Define operational briefs, design criteria, area programs and equipment requirements for all support services, working with management, operators and the Medical Planner.
- Drive the specialist consultants and vendors for each service. Integrate their inputs with Architecture, Structure, MEPF, ELV and Interiors at every design stage.
- Lead value engineering of equipment selection, space allocation, system configuration and operating models. Reduce capital and operating costs without compromising function.
- Prepare and review equipment schedules, specifications, layouts, utility requirements, BOQ inputs and tender documents.
- Review consultant and vendor submissions for completeness, compliance, constructability and operational efficiency.
1. Material Management
- Plan central stores, pharmacy stores, sub-stores and CSSD interfaces. Define the material flow from receiving through distribution, separating clean and dirty movements.
- Define storage systems, racking, cold chain requirements and inventory-handling equipment.
2. Waste Management
- Plan biomedical, general, hazardous, e-waste, radioactive and recyclable waste streams. This includes segregation, collection, holding rooms, routes and the central waste yard, in line with BMW Rules 2016, SWM Rules, CPCB and AERB requirements.
- Evaluate options such as waste chutes, pneumatic waste collection, compactors and in office treatment.
3. Kitchen
- Plan the main kitchen, patient diet kitchen, staff and visitor food courts and pantries. Cover food flow, the tray or trolley distribution system, cold rooms and dishwash areas.
- Coordinate kitchen equipment layouts and their utility needs: gas, exhaust, fire suppression, drainage and grease traps. Ensure FSSAI and hygiene compliance.
4. Laundry
- Plan in-house or outsourced laundry, linen flow, soiled and clean linen holding, and linen chutes or trolleys.
- Define laundry equipment and its utility needs: steam, water, drainage and exhaust.
5. Back of House (BOH)
- Plan support areas: housekeeping, engineering workshops, staff facilities, changing rooms, the mortuary interface, security and facility management (FM) spaces.
- Ensure BOH zoning and adjacencies keep service and public functions separate.
6. Vertical & Horizontal Transportation (VHT)
- Lead traffic analysis and the lift strategy for bed, patient, visitor, staff, service, dirty and fire lifts. Separate the flows for clinical, public and service movement.
- Plan horizontal transport systems such as the pneumatic tube system (PTS), Automated Guided Vehicles (AGVs), trolley systems and dedicated service corridors.
7. Parking
- Plan parking demand and layouts for staff, visitors, ambulances, VIPs, two-wheelers, EVs and service vehicles. Cover drop-offs, the emergency bay and the parking management system.
- Coordinate parking with the masterplan, traffic consultant and statutory parking norms.
8. Logistics
- Develop the campus-wide logistics strategy: loading docks, service yards, delivery scheduling, and service routes for supplies, food, linen, waste, pharmacy and mortuary.
- Integrate logistics with the masterplan, BOH, VHT and the material and waste management systems.
