General
- Prepare the department-wise Medical Equipment Master List from the clinical brief and Schedule of Accommodation, working with management, clinicians, operators and the Medical Planner.
- Provide equipment inputs for Room Data Sheets (RDS) and Room Layout Sheets (RLS), and coordinate them with Architecture, Structure, MEPF, Medical Gas, ELV and Interiors.
- Drive the specialist consultants and OEMs, and review their submissions for completeness, compliance and constructability.
- Lead value engineering of equipment selection, quantities, technology levels and phasing.
- Prepare technical specifications, budget estimates, BOQ inputs, tender documents and technical bid evaluations.
1. Group 1-2-3 Equipment
- Classify all equipment into Group 1 (contractor supply and install), Group 2 (owner supply, contractor install) and Group 3 (owner supply and placement).
- Freeze the service requirements for each group in time for DD and GFC: power, data, water, drainage, medical gas, exhaust, structural loads and ceiling supports.
- Coordinate pre-installation needs, site readiness, delivery routes, installation, testing and commissioning.
2. CSSD
- Plan the Central Sterile Services Department (CSSD) workflow, separating dirty, clean, sterile and storage zones.
- Specify washer-disinfectors, sterilisers, low-temperature sterilisers, and packing and tracking systems, along with their utility needs (RO water, steam, drainage, exhaust).
3. Pharmacy
- Plan the main and satellite pharmacies, including automated dispensing, unit-dose systems, compounding, chemotherapy reconstitution, cold-chain storage and controlled-drug storage.
- Integrate the pharmacy with the Hospital Information System (HIS), the pneumatic tube system and material flows.
4. Lab
- Plan the clinical labs (biochemistry, haematology, microbiology, histopathology and molecular), the blood bank and research labs, including total lab automation where it makes sense.
- Define biosafety levels, biosafety cabinets, fume hoods, and the related utility, drainage and effluent requirements.
5. Shielding
- Coordinate radiation shielding for X-ray, CT, cath labs, PET-CT, nuclear medicine and LINAC/radiotherapy bunkers, and RF shielding for MRI.
- Review shielding calculations with the Radiation Safety Officer (RSO) / physicist, and coordinate AERB layout approvals and licensing.
6. Pneumatic Tube
- Define the stations, zones, routes and capacity of the Pneumatic Tube System (PTS) for samples, blood and medicines.
- Coordinate the PTS with the labs, pharmacy, clinical departments and building services.
7. Simulation
- Plan the Medical College simulation and skills centre, including high-fidelity manikins, simulated OT, ICU and ward setups, and AV and debriefing systems.
- Ensure the centre complies with National Medical Commission (NMC) requirements.
