We are looking for a highly experienced Level 3 Azure Cloud & SQL Database Engineer for a senior hands-on engineering opportunity supporting enterprise customers across Australia and New Zealand.
This is a dual-specialization role requiring deep hands-on expertise in both Microsoft Azure Cloud Infrastructure AND SQL Server / Azure SQL Database Administration.
We are not looking for a pure Azure Engineer with basic SQL exposure or a traditional SQL DBA with limited cloud experience. The ideal candidate must be technically strong across both areas and capable of handling L3 escalations, architecture, migrations, production support, performance troubleshooting, HA/DR and customer-facing technical engagements.

? EXPERIENCE REQUIRED✅ 12+ years of overall IT experience
✅ 6+ years of hands-on production Azure experience
✅ 8+ years of production SQL Server DBA experience
Candidates must have substantial hands-on experience across both Azure and SQL Server/Azure SQL.
☁️ AZURE CLOUD – KEY RESPONSIBILITIES✔ Design, build and operate enterprise Microsoft Azure environments
✔ Review existing Azure infrastructure and recommend improvements around security, resilience, performance and cost optimization
✔ Prepare High-Level Designs (HLD) and Low-Level Designs (LLD) for infrastructure changes and new workloads
✔ Design secure Azure network architectures using:
- Azure Firewall
- Network Security Groups – NSG
- VNet & VNet Peering
- VPN Gateway
- ExpressRoute
- Azure Bastion
- Application Gateway / WAF
- Private Endpoints
✔ Build and manage:
- Azure Virtual Machines
- Azure App Service
- Azure Files
- Automation Accounts
- Backup & Recovery Services Vaults
✔ Implement Azure identity and governance including:
- Microsoft Entra ID
- RBAC
- Privileged Identity Management – PIM
- Key Vault
- Azure Policy
- Defender for Cloud
- Resource Locks
✔ Monitor Azure infrastructure using Azure Monitor, Log Analytics, Alerts and Action Groups
✔ Perform Azure FinOps and cost optimization, including:
- Right-sizing
- Reservations
- Savings Plans
- Resource utilization reviews
- Budget monitoring
✔ Troubleshoot complex VM, network and application-performance problems through to root cause
?️ SQL SERVER / AZURE SQL – KEY RESPONSIBILITIES✔ Install, configure and administer production Microsoft SQL Server environments
✔ Configure maintenance jobs, backup/recovery and database security
✔ Manage high-availability and disaster-recovery environments including:
- Always On Availability Groups
- Windows Failover Clustering
- Log Shipping
- SQL Replication
✔ Perform database patching with complete pre- and post-validation
✔ Perform database health checks and refresh activities
✔ Troubleshoot blocking and database-performance issues
✔ Analyze:
- Execution Plans
- Indexing
- Wait Statistics
- Query Performance
✔ Support:
- Azure SQL Database
- Azure SQL Managed Instance
- Azure MySQL
- PostgreSQL
✔ Handle migration of on-premises SQL Server environments to Azure
? L3 ESCALATION & INCIDENT MANAGEMENTAs an L3 Engineer, you will be expected to:
✔ Take ownership of critical Azure and SQL incidents
✔ Lead P1 production incidents through resolution
✔ Conduct Root Cause Analysis and prepare detailed RCA reports
✔ Support and guide L1/L2 engineers
✔ Maintain technical runbooks and knowledge documentation
✔ Work within formal ITSM, SLA and change-management processes
Experience working within an MSP or IT Services environment using tools such as ServiceNow, Halo or similar platforms will be highly valued.
? MIGRATION & PROFESSIONAL SERVICESYou will also contribute to complex professional-services engagements including:
✔ Azure migration assessments
✔ Dependency mapping
✔ 6R migration strategy
✔ Migration-wave planning
✔ Cutover and rollback planning
✔ Architecture reviews
