Agroforestry Model Design & Establishment
• Develop and adapt agroforestry models suited to hilly agriculture and jhum-affected terrain, integrating tree, plantation, and horticulture components.
• Support farmers directly in establishing agroforestry models on their land, including site selection, layout planning, and phased implementation.
• Draw on a working knowledge of the jhum farming system including rotation cycles, fallow periods, and community land-use norms to ensure models are locally appropriate and adoptable. Nursery Management & Planting Material
• Apply technical understanding and hands-on experience in nursery management to establish and oversee nurseries for agroforestry species.
• Coordinate procurement and preparation of quality seedling/planting material for rubber, bamboo, native trees, and horticulture crops.
• Apply silvicultural and horticultural best practices across nursery operations and field establishment. Native Species Assessment
• Lead assessment of native tree species suitable for the region, considering ecological fit, farmer utility, and compatibility with agroforestry models.
• Maintain a working reference list of recommended species by site/terrain type for use in planning and farmer engagement. Market Analysis & Crop Promotion Strategy
• Conduct market analysis for the uptake of rubber, bamboo, and other horticulture commodities in the region.
• Analyze and recommend which crops to promote across project villages, balancing market viability, ecological suitability, and farmer capacity.
• Conduct supply chain analysis for horticulture crops, including rubber, identifying bottlenecks and opportunities for smallholder market access.
Stakeholder Coordination
• Coordinate with the Karbi Anglong Autonomous Council (KAAC) and other relevant government bodies as the primary institutional engagement points.
• Coordinate with research organizations, KVKs, and other technical partners on agroforestry, nursery, and crop-specific guidance.
• Engage community structures and farmer groups to ensure participatory model design and uptake.
• Coordinate regularly with the WWF-India Delhi office on strategic alignment, reporting, and technical inputs. Project Management & Reporting
• Ensure all Outcome 3.1 activities are implemented on schedule and within allocated budgets, flagging risks/delays early to the Project Manager.
• Maintain accurate records of nursery output, farmer uptake of agroforestry models, and market/supply-chain progress.
• Contribute to donor and internal reporting as required.
• Undertake any other tasks assigned by the Project Manager/supervisor in support of project objectives. Requirements Solid technical grounding in agroforestry model design for hilly/upland terrain.
• Ability to assess native tree species and translate ecological knowledge into practical farmer guidance.
• Sound market and supply-chain analysis skills, particularly for rubber, bamboo, and horticulture commodities.
• Strong stakeholder coordination skills across autonomous council/government, research, and community actors.
• Good planning, budgeting, and reporting discipline.
• Cultural sensitivity and experience working with hill/tribal communities preferred.
• Willingness to travel extensively within Assam, including Karbi Anglong and West Karbi Anglong, and outside as required
