MTechZilla is a custom software development company founded in 2021. We build web, mobile, cloud, and AI products for startups and businesses, primarily in the US and Europe. Our team of 30+ has delivered 40+ products.
You will own technical estimates and solution design for new leads, including how we scope, quote, build, and deliver projects from the first discovery call through the final release, as well as client escalations.
You need to be technical enough to design and estimate a solution, and organized enough to run several client projects at once without anything slipping.
What You Will Be Responsible For
Delivering every project on time, on budget, and at margin
- Own end-to-end delivery across multiple concurrent client projects, from kickoff to release and handover.
- Keep plans, milestones, budgets, and timelines current as priorities shift.
- Track risks, blockers, and dependencies every week, and act on them before they reach the client.
- Plan resources across projects and manage team utilization.
- Manage scope and turn change requests into approved, billable change orders.
- Coordinate with QA on test plans and release checklists so every release is ready before a client sees it.
- Be the escalation point for delivery issues, internally and with clients.
Manage client relationships in the US and Europe
- Act as the main delivery contact for clients across time zones.
- Run status reviews, sprint demos, and steering meetings.
- Present delivery status, risks, and roadmaps to client founders and executives.
- Understand each client’s business and propose technical solutions to their problems.
- Travel for client visits, kickoffs, and workshops.
- Spot follow-on work in existing accounts and bring it to the growth team.
Turning client goals into requirements developers can build from
- Run discovery and requirements workshops with clients.
- Write PRDs, user stories, and acceptance criteria that developers can build from without guesswork.
- Prioritize features and maintain roadmaps based on business value, effort, and risk.
Design solutions and own estimates for new leads
Every quotation we send depends on this part of the role.
- Join discovery and pre-sales calls as the technical lead.
- Design the solution: architecture, tech stack, integrations, and hosting approach.
- Break requirements into features and tasks, and estimate effort and timelines.
- Complete the technical sections of our quotation template: scope, assumptions, exclusions, team composition, milestones, and timeline.
- Estimate AWS and third-party costs where relevant.
- Review SOWs for technical and delivery feasibility before they are signed.
- Plan and run proofs of concept, including AI and automation use cases, with clear success criteria and a recommendation to build, scale, or stop.
Building delivery processes and documentation that scale
- Set documentation standards in Confluence or Google Docs for requirements, architecture decisions, runbooks, release notes, and handover notes.
- Build a reusable estimation model from past projects, so quotes get faster and more accurate.
- Define and improve our processes for sprints, QA gates, releases, and client reporting.
- Send weekly delivery health, margin, and risk reports to leadership.
- Keep each client’s information, code, and commercial terms strictly separate, in line with every contract’s NDA, scope, and deliverables.
Leading and growing the engineering team
- Lead tech leads, developers, remote contributors, and contractors, and keep them aligned on priorities.
- Run stand-ups, sprint reviews, and retrospectives, and follow through on action items.
- Review architecture and code on critical projects.
- Take part in hiring, interviews, and decisions on team structure.
Requirements
Technical Skills You Need
You do not need to write production code every day. You do need to design a system, judge whether an estimate is realistic,
and hold your own with a client’s CTO.
- At least 4 years as a hands-on software engineer before moving into lead or delivery roles.
- Working knowledge of our stack, deep enough to design and review solutions: React and Next.js, React Native, Node.js, and AWS.
- System design: APIs, databases, authentication, scaling, and third-party integrations such as payments, maps, and notifications.
- A track record of estimating software projects, with examples of estimates compared to actual delivery.
- Ability to split a product into an MVP and later phases that fit a client’s budget.
- Working knowledge of security and data protection basics, including GDPR for European clients.
- Familiarity with GitHub or GitLab workflows, CI/CD, and architecture diagrams.
Experience and Qualifications
Required
- 8 to 12 years of total experience, including at least 3 years leading delivery, projects, or engineering teams.
- Experience running multiple software projects at the same time.
- Experience working directly with US or European clients.
- Strong understanding of Agile/Scrum, SDLC, release planning, and QA coordination.
- Hands-on use of Jira or similar tools such as Azure DevOps, Linear, ClickUp, or Asana.
- Transparent written English for PRDs, status reports, and executive summaries.
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, IT, or a related field, or equivalent experience.
- Willingness to travel for client visits, including international travel.
Preferred
- Experience in a software services company, agency, or consulting firm, especially on fixed-price projects.
- Experience building or integrating AI and LLM features.
- Exposure to IoT or connected products in e-mobility, energy, industrial equipment, or logistics.
- Ability to create wireframes, workflow diagrams, and POC briefs.
