Role & responsibilities

- Patient Evaluation & Diagnosis: Document and review patient medical histories, conduct comprehensive eye exams, and interpret diagnostic tests (such as OCT scans and visual field tests). [1, 2]
- Medical Treatments: Prescribe and administer topical or systemic medications to treat eye diseases, infections, and manage pain. [1]
- Surgical Procedures: Perform eye and laser surgeriesincluding cataract removal, LASIK, glaucoma interventions, and corneal transplants. [1, 2]
- Patient Education & Counseling: Explain diagnoses, treatment risks, perks, and long-term vision maintenance to patients and their families. [1, 2]
- Multidisciplinary Collaboration: Work alongside optometrists, ophthalmic technicians, nurses, and other medical specialists (such as neurologists or pediatricians) for complex cases. [1, 2]
- Clinical Management: Supervise clinic staff, manage outpatient or emergency eye clinics, and provide postoperative care. [1, 2]
