About the Role

We are looking for a highly experienced Zabbix SME to assess, upgrade, optimize and consolidate two large-scale production Zabbix environments (v4 and v7) into a single Zabbix v7.4 deployment.

The environment includes 10,000+ active monitoring configurations and approximately 150 templates, requiring strong enterprise monitoring expertise, migration experience and disciplined change management.

Key Responsibilities

- Assess existing Zabbix architecture, performance, scalability and configuration.
- Plan and execute Zabbix v4/v7 to v7.4 upgrades, including testing, rollback and change management.
- Design and implement consolidation of two Zabbix environments into one unified deployment.
- Review and optimize approximately 150 Zabbix templates to improve monitoring effectiveness and reduce alert noise.
- Optimize triggers, thresholds, alerts, actions, escalations and notifications.
- Configure history, trends, retention policies and database performance.
- Improve monitoring of servers, networks, data centers, power, temperature and environmental systems.
- Conduct monitoring gap analysis and recommend improvements based on industry best practices.
- Implement automation using Zabbix APIs, scripts and integrations.
- Prepare technical documentation, migration plans and operational runbooks.

Required Skills




- Extensive hands-on experience with enterprise-scale Zabbix administration and architecture.
- Strong experience with Zabbix upgrades, migrations and environment consolidation.
- Expertise in Zabbix Server, Proxy, Agent, templates, triggers, discovery, actions and alerting.
- Experience managing large production monitoring environments (10,000+ monitoring configurations or equivalent scale).
- Strong knowledge of Linux administration and troubleshooting.
- Experience with MySQL/MariaDB or PostgreSQL database optimization, including history and retention management.
- Experience with SNMP, IPMI, agent-based monitoring and network/device telemetry.
- Ability to develop and optimize Zabbix templates, custom checks and automation.
- Strong Python/Bash scripting and Zabbix API integration skills.
- Experience with high availability, performance tuning, backup, rollback and change management.
- Strong troubleshooting, technical documentation and stakeholder communication skills.

Good to Have
- Experience managing multi-tenant Zabbix environments in an MSP.
- Experience upgrading older Zabbix v4 environments to newer major versions.
- Zabbix HA, proxy architecture and distributed monitoring.
- Monitoring of data center power, cooling and environmental infrastructure.
- Experience with Grafana, Prometheus or other monitoring platforms.
- Ansible or infrastructure automation experience.
- Zabbix Certified Specialist, Professional or Expert certifications.
- Experience with production-critical infrastructure and large-scale monitoring transformations.
