Job Purpose

To perform blood bank laboratory procedures, ensure the protected collection, testing, processing, storage and issue of blood and blood components, and maintain compliance with applicable statutory requirements and hospital quality standards.

Key Duties and Responsibilities

- Perform blood grouping, Rh typing and cross-matching procedures.
- Conduct compatibility testing and antibody screening as per established protocols.
- Handle blood collection, processing, separation and preparation of blood components.
- Ensure proper storage and preservation of whole blood and blood components under prescribed temperature conditions.
- Monitor and maintain blood bank refrigerators, deep freezers, platelet incubators and other equipment.




- Maintain daily temperature records and equipment maintenance logs.
- Ensure proper labelling, identification and traceability of blood units.
- Maintain records of blood collection, testing, storage, issue and disposal.
- Ensure quality control and quality assurance procedures are followed.
- Check the expiry dates and stock availability of blood and blood components.
- Coordinate with clinical departments for blood requests and transfusion-related requirements.
- Follow infection control practices, biomedical waste management and laboratory safety protocols.
- Report any discrepancies, adverse reactions or technical issues to the Blood Bank In-charge.
- Assist during internal and external audits and NABH assessments.
- Ensure compliance with applicable blood bank licensing requirements and regulatory guidelines.
