We are looking for Senior AS/400 (IBM i) Migration Developer for Government Legacy Systems.

Overview

We are looking for an experienced AS/400 (IBM i) Developer to support the modernization and migration of our legacy business systems. This is not a traditional maintenance role—the primary objective is to analyze existing applications, document business logic, extract data, and work alongside modern engineering teams to migrate functionality to a new platform.

The ideal candidate has deep IBM i expertise, understands complex legacy systems, and can bridge the gap between legacy applications and contemporary cloud-native architectures.

Responsibilities

•⁠ ⁠Analyze and document existing AS/400 applications and business processes.

•⁠ ⁠Reverse engineer legacy RPG, RPGLE, CL, and DB2 applications.

•⁠ ⁠Identify business rules, workflows, and system dependencies.

•⁠ ⁠Support data extraction, transformation, and migration activities.

•⁠ ⁠Collaborate with architects, business analysts, and modern development teams during migration projects.

•⁠ ⁠Assist in designing migration strategies and validating migrated functionality.

•⁠ ⁠Create technical documentation for legacy systems and migration activities.

•⁠ ⁠Troubleshoot issues in existing IBM i applications throughout the migration period.

•⁠ ⁠Support phased decommissioning of legacy applications.





Required Skills

•⁠ ⁠7+ years developing on IBM AS/400 (IBM i).

•⁠ ⁠Strong experience with RPG III, RPG IV, RPGLE, and CL.

•⁠ ⁠Solid understanding of DB2 for IBM i.

•⁠ ⁠Experience with SQL on IBM i.

•⁠ ⁠Knowledge of DDS, physical and logical files.

•⁠ ⁠Experience analyzing large legacy codebases.

•⁠ ⁠Strong documentation and communication skills.

•⁠ ⁠Ability to work closely with cross-functional engineering teams.

Preferred Skills

•⁠ ⁠Experience with modernization or migration projects.

•⁠ ⁠Familiarity with APIs, REST services, and system integration.

•⁠ ⁠Experience exposing or consuming IBM i data from modern platforms.

•⁠ ⁠Understanding of cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, or GCP).

•⁠ ⁠Experience with ETL or data migration tools.

•⁠ ⁠Knowledge of Java, C#, Python, or Node.js is a plus.
