DESCRIPTION

Are you a builder who thrives on leading teams through complex technical challenges? Do you want to shape the direction of software systems that serve millions of customers? We are looking for a Software Development Manager to lead a high-performing engineering team at Amazon. In this role, you will own the strategic vision and execution for critical software systems, driving innovation while building and mentoring a team of talented engineers. You will define roadmaps, partner with cross-functional stakeholders, and make architectural decisions that balance short-term delivery with long-term sustainability. Your leadership will directly influence how we solve real customer problems at scale, and you will have the autonomy to shape both the technical direction and the culture of your team. We are looking for energetic and technically focussed SDM who can help deliver our new charter for "One EU supply chain in Europe" — our multi-year bet to transform FBA in Europe from a country-by-country operation into a single, unified European supply chain: one shipment, one inventory pool, one set of controls.

Key job responsibilities

- Lead and grow an inclusive software development team, owning the team's charter, vision, and 1–2 year roadmap while aligning deliverables to organizational goals.
- Design and drive the architecture of software systems across the full lifecycle—from requirements gathering and system design through implementation, testing, deployment, and operational excellence.
- Partner with product management, engineering peers, and stakeholders to prioritize work, resolve competing demands, and deliver high-quality software that improves customer experiences.
- Recruit, coach, and develop engineers by providing actionable feedback, creating growth plans, and delegating meaningful ownership to build future technical leaders.
- Establish mechanisms and metrics to monitor system health, team performance,

and delivery quality, proactively identifying risks and simplifying processes to reduce complexity.

A day in the life You start the morning by scanning your team's operational dashboards and any overnight on-call activity — checking the health of the seller-facing systems you own and making sure nothing is blocking sellers from getting inventory into Amazon. You join your team's daily standup, unblock engineers, and dive into a design review for a new Generative AI (GenAI) conversational assistant feature that will help sellers manage their inventory.

Midday, you meet with your Product and Applied Science partners to align on the quarterly roadmap and prioritize the next set of deliverables — balancing near-term seller impact against longer-term bets like the Europe FBA transformation. You spend focused time writing or reviewing a technical narrative, and you have a career-development one-on-one with one of your engineers.

In the afternoon, you make a key architecture decision on a high-scale service, review a peer's design document, and represent your area in a business review with leadership. You close the day by clearing code reviews, responding to your team, and jotting down priorities for tomorrow. Throughout, you're operating as both a builder and a leader — setting technical direction, growing your people, and delivering measurable impact for sellers across International FBA's marketplaces.
