Role Type

Design Lead / Senior Individual Contributor

Reporting To

Design Manager / Engineering Manager

Role Purpose

Lead the design and coordination of CDA / IA, PCW, process exhaust and process vacuum systems for a semiconductor FAB / OSAT facility. Own system calculations and technical deliverables, coordinate with vendors and other disciplines, and guide junior designers while maintaining design quality and schedule.

Key Responsibilities

- Establish and verify system design basis, operating cases, utility demand, redundancy philosophy, design pressures / temperatures, material selection and applicable project criteria.
- Lead CDA / IA design, including demand and diversity assessment, distribution pressure requirements, line sizing, pressure-drop calculations, receiver sizing, filtration / drying interfaces and equipment / header arrangements.
- Lead PCW network design, including tool and equipment demand, supply / return temperature and pressure requirements, flow calculations, line sizing, pressure-drop analysis, balancing strategy, isolation and maintenance provisions.
- Lead process exhaust design for tool exhaust networks, including exhaust demand, duct sizing, velocity and pressure-loss assessment, material compatibility, segregation requirements, access provisions and coordination with exhaust treatment equipment.
- Lead Process Vacuum (PV) design, including tool demand and simultaneity, vacuum level requirements, line and header sizing, pressure-drop calculations, network configuration, equipment interfaces and operational isolation philosophy.
- Review P&IDs;, utility flow diagrams, equipment layouts,

piping / duct routing, 3D model deliverables, line lists, equipment lists and design calculations.
- Prepare and review technical specifications, equipment datasheets, requisitions, BOQs / MTOs and technical bid evaluations for relevant packages.
- Manage technical interfaces with tool vendors, system suppliers and exhaust-treatment vendors; review vendor calculations, layouts, drawings and submittals and resolve technical deviations.
- Lead interdisciplinary model reviews and clash-resolution workshops; identify routing, maintenance, access, support and construction issues before IFC release.
- Coordinate with process, HVAC, piping, structural, electrical, controls, BIM and construction teams to maintain an integrated, buildable design.
- Monitor engineering progress, identify design risks and missing inputs, maintain deliverable registers and support actions to meet project milestones.
- Mentor junior engineers and designers, review calculations and drawings, and promote consistent design methods and document quality.
- Support HAZID / HAZOP or other risk reviews where applicable, and incorporate agreed actions into the design.
- Resolve RFIs and site queries, assess proposed changes and support technical clarification during procurement, installation, testing and commissioning.

Education and Experience

- B.E. / B.Tech. in Mechanical Engineering or Chemical Engineering.
- Approximately 10 years of relevant design engineering experience in industrial utility systems, preferably in semiconductor FAB / OSAT, electronics manufacturing, pharmaceutical or other high-technology facilities.
- Demonstrated hands-on design experience in several of the following: CDA / IA, PCW, process exhaust and process vacuum.
- Experience leading design deliverables, reviewing calculations and drawings, coordinating with vendors and managing interdisciplinary interfaces.

Technical Knowledge and Software Skills

- Strong understanding of compressed air / instrument air networks, PCW distribution,

process exhaust duct systems and vacuum utility networks.
- Proficiency in flow and demand calculations, line / duct sizing, pressure-drop calculations, equipment sizing and review of vendor design data.
- Ability to interpret tool utility matrices, process requirements, P&IDs;, specifications, equipment datasheets and 3D models.
- Proficiency in AutoCAD and practical experience with Revit / Navisworks or equivalent BIM coordination platforms.
- Knowledge of relevant ASME, ASTM, SMACNA, ISO and project-specific requirements, including material compatibility, system segregation, maintainability and safety considerations.
- Solid technical review, coordination, planning, decision-making, documentation and mentoring skills.
- PIPE-FLO or equivalent hydraulic network modelling software for flow distribution, pressure-drop analysis, pump / system curve assessment and utility network sizing.
- AFT Fathom and/or AFT Arrow for detailed liquid hydraulic / gas-flow modelling and pressure-loss calculations, where applicable.
- AutoCAD for 2D engineering drawings; Revit and Navisworks for 3D modelling, coordination and clash detection.
- Microsoft Excel for engineering calculations, equipment sizing, data checks and design registers.

Coordination and Interfaces

- Own technical coordination with process / equipment teams to confirm tool utility loads, operating cases, exhaust classifications and vacuum requirements.
- Coordinate with HVAC, piping, structural, electrical, controls, BIM, procurement, construction and commissioning teams to deliver an integrated design.
- Lead technical discussions with vendors and consultants, track comments and deviations, and ensure design decisions are documented.
- Provide technical direction to junior engineers and designers and report progress, risks and required decisions to the design manager / engineering manager.

Key Deliverables

- Design basis inputs, system calculations, equipment sizing and technical design documentation.
- P&IDs;, utility flow diagrams, equipment layouts, piping / duct routing drawings and coordinated 2D / 3D model deliverables.
- Technical specifications, datasheets, BOQs / MTOs, technical bid evaluations and vendor document reviews, as applicable.
- Design review comment responses, clash-resolution records, interface registers and responses to RFIs / site queries.
