Refrigeration & Cooling Systems Engineer – R&D; Location: Reliance MET, Jhajjar, Haryana

About the Role We are looking for an experienced Refrigeration & Cooling Systems Engineer to join the R&D; team at Reliance MET, Jhajjar.

The candidate will be responsible for designing, developing, testing, and optimising advanced cooling systems for laboratory and scientific equipment, including ultra-low-temperature (ULT) freezers, biomedical freezers, incubators, plant growth chambers, and environmental chambers.

The role requires strong technical expertise in refrigeration and thermal engineering, along with the ability to collaborate effectively with design, electronics, production, quality, and service teams.

Key Responsibilities

1. Design and develop single-stage and cascade refrigeration systems for ultra-low-temperature applications.
2. Select and optimise refrigerants such as R404A, R508B, R23, R170, and R290, including mixed-refrigerant systems.
3. Select and size compressors from leading brands such as SECOP, Embraco, Bitzer, Tecumseh, Danfoss, and Copeland.
4. Perform heat-load calculations and select appropriate thermal insulation materials for chamber design.
5. Develop and improve cooling systems for plant growth chambers, biomedical freezers, incubators, and ULT storage units.
6. Work on humidity and CO₂ control systems for incubators and environmental chambers.
7. Integrate refrigeration systems with temperature controllers such as KLT11IB, Elitech, Dixell, and Carel, along with PID controllers, sensors, and microprocessor-based control systems.
8. Diagnose and resolve cooling-system failures, vacuum leaks, and insulation-related issues during prototyping and testing.
9. Prepare technical documentation, test reports,



and design records for R&D; projects.
10. Collaborate with electronics, production, and quality teams to transition products from prototype development to manufacturing.

Qualifications
- B.E./B.Tech in Mechanical Engineering, Refrigeration & Air Conditioning, or a related discipline.
- Diploma holders with strong relevant industry experience may also be considered.
- Specialisation in Thermal Engineering, Cryogenics, or HVAC-R will be preferred.

Required Experience
- Minimum 3 years of experience in R&D;, manufacturing, or servicing of low-temperature equipment, cold rooms, medical freezers, or environmental chambers.
- Candidates from HVAC-R, commercial refrigeration, cold-storage equipment manufacturing, or medical refrigeration industries will be preferred.

Desired Candidate Profile
- Solid academic foundation and sound technical knowledge of refrigeration and thermal engineering.
- Hands-on experience in product development, testing, troubleshooting, and optimisation.
- Practical problem-solving skills and the ability to work independently.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills in English and Hindi.
- Ability to collaborate with cross-functional teams and manage technical responsibilities effectively.
