Project Engineering Head / Engineering Director
1. Job Objective
Provide senior technical leadership and design assurance for chemical distribution and process gas delivery systems in a semiconductor FAB / OSAT project. Apply direct experience from previous FAB projects to review critical systems, guide the design team, manage interfaces with tool OEMs and specialist vendors, and ensure safe, compliant, maintainable, and contamination-controlled system design.
2. Key Responsibilities
- Lead the chemical and process gas system design strategy based on FAB operating experience, process tool data, approved chemical/gas inventories, and client requirements.
- Provide technical direction for chemical storage, transfer, distribution, chemical cabinets, valve manifold boxes, and point-of-use delivery systems.
- Provide technical direction for bulk gas and specialty gas systems, gas cabinets/panels, VMBs, gas distribution piping/tubing, and tool interfaces within project scope.
- Review and resolve critical P&IDs;, calculations, material selections, equipment sizing, layouts, vendor package designs, and interface issues.
- Assess reliability, maintainability, purity, contamination control, safety, redundancy, and operability in design decisions.
- Review integration of gas detection, alarm interfaces, emergency shutoff, purge/vent arrangements, process exhaust, ventilation, chemical leak detection, secondary containment, segregation, and protected access.
- Lead or support HAZID/HAZOP and design risk assessments; ensure identified actions are resolved and documented.
- Act as senior technical interface with client engineering, design consultants, process tool OEMs, chemical suppliers, gas suppliers, and system package vendors.
- Lead evaluation of vendor proposals, critical equipment selections, technical deviations, and scope/interface responsibilities.
- Guide and mentor chemical/gas design engineers and mid-level managers; establish design checking and technical review practices.
- Oversee design progress, technical quality, risk registers, comment closure, and IFC release readiness.
- Lead multidisciplinary design reviews and support construction, commissioning, and operational-readiness reviews.
3. Qualifications and Experience
- B.E./B.Tech. in Chemical or Mechanical Engineering.
- 15+ years of relevant engineering experience, including direct prior work on semiconductor FAB projects; FAB experience is mandatory for this role.
- Demonstrated experience in chemical distribution and process gas system design, technical review, and multidisciplinary coordination in a semiconductor FAB.
- Experience leading engineering teams and coordinating with international clients, consultants, and OEMs.
- Previous expatriate or international project assignment experience is preferred; assignment terms depend on project requirements.
4. Technical Skills and Software
- Expert practical knowledge of semiconductor FAB chemical distribution and process gas delivery systems, including high-purity and hazardous-service interfaces.
- Ability to review hydraulic/process calculations, gas flow and pressure-drop analyses, and equipment sizing against OEM data and applicable methods.
- Experience reviewing AutoCAD drawings and 3D models in Navisworks, Revit, Plant 3D, AVEVA E3D, or Smart 3D depending on project platform.
- Strong knowledge of PFDs, P&IDs;, equipment datasheets, material specifications, BOQs/MTOs, technical bid evaluations, and vendor documentation.
- Strong technical risk assessment, design assurance, interface management, and engineering decision-making skills.
5. Expected Candidate Capability
- Provide senior technical ownership of chemical and gas systems design, apply proven FAB experience to critical design decisions, guide the engineering team, resolve safety and interface issues, and ensure systems are ready for procurement, construction, and commissioning.
