Position Summary The Product Engineer will be the technical link between customers, sales and manufacturing for fiber optic cable assemblies used in aerospace and defense applications. The role covers understanding customer requirements, reviewing drawings and specifications, processing RFQs, and defining product configurations that meet performance, quality and compliance standards. The ideal candidate has hands-on experience with high-reliability interconnect products and can turn complex requirements into accurate, manufacturable and cost-effective solutions.

Key Responsibilities

- Study and analyse customer requirements, specifications, drawings and statements of work for fiber optic cable assemblies, and clarify technical gaps with the customer.

- Process RFQs end to end: technical review, feasibility check, bill of materials (BOM) preparation, costing inputs, lead-time estimation and submission of technical and commercial responses within deadlines.

- Read, interpret and review engineering drawings, including connector interface details, cable construction, fiber type, lengths, tolerances, labelling and marking requirements.

- Create and release assembly drawings, BOMs, work instructions and routing documents for production.

- Select suitable components such as fiber and cable types, connectors (e.g., MIL-DTL-38999, ARINC 801, MT/MPO, LC, SC, ST, FC, expanded beam), ferrules, backshells, jackets and sleeving.

- Work with production, quality, procurement and supply chain to ensure designs are manufacturable and that materials are available.





- Define and review test requirements, such as insertion loss, return loss, continuity, end-face inspection and environmental tests, and support qualification and first article inspection (FAI).

- Handle engineering change requests (ECR/ECN) and manage drawing and document revision control.

- Make sure products and documents comply with applicable standards and customer flow-down requirements (MIL-STD, MIL-PRF, AS9100, IPC/WHMA-A-620, Telcordia/GR and others as relevant).

- Provide technical support to customers and sales teams, including datasheets, compliance matrices, deviation requests and technical clarifications.

- Support root cause and corrective action for customer complaints and non-conformances (8D, CAPA).

- Identify cost reduction, alternate sourcing and standardisation opportunities without compromising quality or compliance.

- Keep customer proprietary data, export-controlled information and defense documentation confidential, following ITAR/EAR or applicable national regulations.

Required Qualifications

- Bachelor's degree in Electronics, Electrical, Photonics, Mechanical, Instrumentation or a related engineering discipline (Master's degree preferred).





- 810 years of relevant experience as a Product / Application / Design Engineer in fiber optic cable assemblies, harnesses or high-reliability interconnect products, preferably for the aerospace and defense market.

- Strong ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and specifications (GD&T; and cable assembly drawings).

- Proven experience in understanding customer requirements and converting them into technical and commercial proposals.

- Hands-on experience in RFQ processing, BOM creation and technical costing support.

- Good knowledge of fiber optic technology: single-mode and multimode fibers, connector types, polishing and termination methods, optical loss budgets and testing.

- Working knowledge of CAD tools (AutoCAD / SolidWorks or equivalent) and ERP / PLM systems (SAP, Oracle or similar).

- Familiarity with quality systems such as AS9100 / ISO 9001 and with FAI (AS9102), configuration and change control.

- Excellent written and verbal communication and the ability to work with customers and cross functional teams.

Preferred Qualifications

- Experience with military and aerospace connector families and harsh-workplace cable

assemblies (vibration, temperature, humidity, fluid resistance).

- Knowledge of IPC/WHMA-A-620, IPC-A-610, MIL-STD-1553 / ARINC networks and fiber optic

testing standards (FOTP / TIA / IEC).

- Exposure to export compliance (ITAR/EAR) and defense procurement practices.

- Experience with Lean, Six Sigma or similar continuous improvement methods.
